According to your math I'm missing out if I buy 11 items without incurring a $9.09 surcharge on each?
Correct, because you aren't getting two day shipping for under $10 an item unless the shipping cost is built into the price of them item.

I spent a decent chunk of money at Amazon last year. I promise you I saved that $100 5 times over.

may be if you are a mass seller, but not if you're just trying to sell a few things every now and then. Ebay fees are rediculous.
I'll go dig up my shopping history. Pool supplies, pole saw, electronics, appliance repair parts, etc.

Don't much care about 2 day shipping because I'm not running out of toilet paper and waiting on amazon to ship me some from 2 states away

For the items you can find locally. Not all items are found locally at a cheap price.

Like Uber, it is a luxury item. You pay to avoid getting off your arse, getting in your car, driving through traffic, parking, searching for what you need in the store, standing in line amongst other tards (I find that I hate the general public), checking out with some cashier who hates her life, walking back out to your car, driving back home through traffic, and then getting home with your item.
For some people, that experience isn't stressful at all. For me personally, I'd rather stick knives through my eyeballs than deal with anything more than my normal Sunday morning produce stand and Fresh Market/Mathernes stop. I don't use Amazon for food-groceries since I like my quiet grocery trips to less populated stores, but Amazon is hugely helpful for the things I can only get at WalMart, Target, in hell, etc.
For a lot of people, paying $$$$ to get 5 miles down the road during surge pricing with Uber isn't worth it. If I'm drunk and ready to be home, I won't even think twice about it. It all depends on the value you place on convenience.
Clearly, there are plenty of people out there who are not bothered in the least by others. They stick their head in the clouds and text through traffic and leave their shopping carts against cars in the parking lot and in general just have a pretty easy experience when they go shopping. But for someone like me whose insides turn to fire when I see people being stupid/careless/lazy, it is best for us all that I pay that $99 and shop from my couch.

Downvoted for CAD
Why is he the only person, in the history of the world, that has had continued problems with Amazon? Maybe Amazon reads TD and is fricking with him. That would be clutch as frick
They really have expedited everything from buying to shipping to complaints and returning stuff. Commendable

I look at price too and utilize eBay or other stores but Amazon is cheaper on a lot of the things I buy. Also, IDC about paying a little more for something for the convenience sometimes.

TP
Paper towels
hand soap
toothpaste
dryer sheets

some of those are monthly items, some are every 2 or 3 months
I have other items for other months like bodywash, soap, detergent, dishwasher pods, trash bags, etc
basically all cleaning and hygiene stuff that we re-use a lot

In all seriousness I buy all of these things in BULK when they go on sale. I hate paying regular price so when I see old spice 2 for 1 at Kroger I buy like 10.

Is it worth the current price of $179? Does it work well? What is the most useful functions?

like right now, I need some new bulbs for my truck, but I really don't feel like going to Autozone or wherever after work or during lunch, so I'll just order them while at work, and they will just show up at my door Thursday with no shipping cost
Thanks for the reminder, I just ordered a pack of 3057s for my truck.

I wonder how much longer we will enjoy tax free purchases online. This is probably one of the main reasons I order on Amazon.

I've had prime for years, and every year i seem to order more and more things on amazon. This year some of my more obscure orders:
Replacement hinges and knobs for all interior doors ($10 cheaper each vs HD or Lowes)
Numerous parts for a bathroom renovation, the least of which was porcelain sinks, fixtures, lights, etc
A replacement electric motor for a box fan (don't even know where I would have gotten that locally, and I managed to salvage a $350 fan)
Additional batteries for a video camera ($50 for 3, normally $100 each)
Normal AA and AAA batteries (the Amazon Basics brand is awesome for everything I have purchased from them)
Countless chargers and cables for all types of electronic devices (screw paying Apple $29 for a 2.5' Lightning cable)
Replacement LED bulbs for flashlights
Windshield Wipers
Headlight Bulbs for my car.
Internal SSD Drive
I could go on and on, over 200 items purchased last year at Amazon. All resulted in cheaper prices than anything I could have bought elsewhere online or locally. I even opened an Amazon Store credit card with them, where I automatically get 5% cashback on everything purchased through them. Also, don't forget their streaming content (original and studio based, HBO catalog, etc)
I will never get rid of Prime.

I'm a Prime member and a fan. However, I have noticed more and more fake reviews on Amazon. In fact, some items are completely dominated by fake reviews.
I've started clicking on the reviewer for items that sound like the seller has inflated the product with fake reviews. Often you'll find that a review wrote 10-15 reviews on June 24, 2013 and never again. Make your way down the list of reviewers and it's the same for many. 10-15 reviews on one day, never again. It really irritates me because Amazon reviews used to be awesome and my first stop for product info.

autozone, napa, oreilly and advance auto routinely have 20% off and i like their selection better.
i was in napa just the other day and needed a bunch of belts, gaskets and other assorted parts and they had a 'buy a 5 gallon bucket for $1 and everything that goes into it is 20% off'. saved a ton that day.
