All the idiots here saying that he shouldn't have kicked the dog are wrong. Period. Your dog was leashed, his was not. You were in control of your dog, he was not. At the point where the dog is coming up to yours it is up to you to assess the situation and react accordingly. To the interweb warriors that say "if you kick my dog I'd kick your arse", you belong in jail. Someone defending their dog against another dog is not justification for assaulting another person.

There are simply not enough reprisals against people who do not maintain control of their dogs out there. Based on some of the idiotic comments on here I wonder how many of you function enough to walk upright and inhale oxygen at the same time, much less take care of another living thing.

Yeah this thread is full of some disturbingly stupid stuff.

“I don’t have to follow the rules and I’ll let my big arse dog run after you, but you better not do anything about it or I’ll kick your arse”.

OK, hope you mouth breathers enjoy jail and paying to get your dog’s jaw fixed.

Learning to read is always helpful, it was a PUBLIC PARK with signs all around stating all dogs must be on a leash.

One must always obey the signs! Does your wife lay out your clothes?

You don’t have to obey the signs.

Just don’t act like an enraged snowflake when someone kicks the hell out of your out-of-control dog.

You sound jealous that someone is a functioning member of society with a decent level of literacy to be able to read and obey posted signs. Stop projecting your self-loathing onto others "SixthAndBarone"; or be man enough to post on your main account.

If only there were protocols in place for avoiding these situations.

So I'm walking my chiweenie (15 lbs) in the local park, "On a leash".

City Ordinance requires a leash and there are multiple signs around the park indicating so.

Jackass comes in the park with a 40-50 lb shepherd mix and just lets it go free, dog eyes my boy Rocky from 100 yards and makes a bee line for him.

Right before he got to him I kicked the guys dog in the chin flipping him and nearly me, I got his arse good.

The owner was pissed but I told him to keep his F'ing dog on a leash. Dude said I should have just gotten between them and seemed to want to throw knuckles about it

I probably would just picked up my tiny little dog and then yelled at the dog coming towards me and made a hard step at them. Usually works on about any dog if you get big and loud they question what they are doing. If he doesn't stop at that by all means kick.

So while you weren't wrong technically, you were a bit of an a-hole. I'd rather do the above then berate the owner (or probably just move on with my life) than kick a dog due to actions of his owner.

I do truly hate people who don't leash their animals. I have a shepherd who isn't cool with dogs he doesn't know getting in his face. People will sometimes get pissed when he goes after their dogs a bit who run up into our space while mine is leashed as they slowly walk over going "oh don't worry he is friendly".

Here’s what you need to learn: you aggressively walk straight at the dog, stomp your feet, yell “go away” while motioning with your arm. 9/10 times, the dog will back down. This is what any man should know, how to handle dogs. If the dog doesn’t stop, then by all means kick him. But you failed to do this. Instead, you got scared and kicked him and then came on here to brag about it and try to make your failure seem justified.

Absolutely 100% correct. Thank you.

Doesn't change a single thing that I said. A 40lb dog ran to come play with your dog and you punted it in the face.

What's it like to look like a guy but have a gaping vagina between your legs?

ETA: Also, a dog park with a leash law is just a park.

You weren't wrong, and I love dogs. This wasn't a dog park, right

I am a huge lover of dogs and don’t mind it one bit.

I have 2, one a calm well behaved but grumpy lab and a moronic friendly coon hound. We have a park directly behind my house I’ll go throw a ball with them at unleashed. We usually make sure nobody is there, but they’ve never harmed anybody or another dog. People obviously show up sometimes.

My coon hound is mentally challenged and is almost untrainable. She will take off at any time unleashed, but she just runs up to people and says hi and that’s it. She’s gotten kicked and hit with a walking stick and I’ve never begrudged a soul for doing it

My profession is to care for and treat animals. In my time ive seen larger dogs mortally wound smaller dogs with a single bite. Ive seen larger dogs snatch smaller animals out of the arms of owners. If that dog was rushing your dog and looked aggressive you have all the right to kick it so hard the teeth fly out its mouth. It takes just seconds for a large dog to do significant damage to smaller breeds.

You can usually tell when a dog is running towards you if it's greeting and play or ready for a fight.

You either head it off before or not.

Other owner was in the wrong since he wasn't in control of his dog in a public park.
