Wife and kids are doing something with another family this afternoon. The other mom asked if we wanted to all meet for dinner afterwards at a nearby restaurant. I hate this particular restaurant, and told my wife I’d rather not waste a night out eating at some place I don’t like. We see this family nearly every weekend at the pool, so it’s not like we never see these people. Wife is paused at me saying we are becoming the anti-social couple that always turns down invites. I didn’t see the big deal. We haven’t been eating out much because it’s a bit of a crapshoot in what service you’ll get while restaurants work to get back to full staff. I’d rather not drop $100 at a restaurant I don’t like on a Friday night. I even suggested a couple of other places, but the other couple declined those.

I can’t see anybody wanting to eat dinner with you.

Stop being a snob and go enjoy your friends company.

You can pick the restaurant next time.

Yes. You can find something you like on the menu. Predrink, then go have fun.

seems reasonable. tell them to name 3 places, name 3 places yourself and settle on of of those.

If they refuse to budge, they probably aren't worth hanging out with anyway.

Turning down an invite with people you hang out with all the time is not unreasonable.

But if you are becoming the anti-social couple and this is becoming a habit, then maybe your wife has a point?

Sometimes you just have to suck it up and go to Applebees, man,

I’ve spent years cultivating this moniker and it’s really paying off now with few invites to anything. Keep up the good work.

It really saves the hassle of coming up with bs excuses as to why I won’t be coming to something.
