Uber Eats isn’t a subscription. You do realize that’s how the drivers make their nut right? Don’t be so cheap

I went to see Springsteen in concert, up the East Coast earlier this year.

The venue had very few stands to buy drinks from a person, but had many self checkout kiosks. No people actually working, but many watching the registers like a hawk to make sure you didn't steal. Like, walk up to you, hold you there until they read the screen that said "approved", then waved you on.

I ring up my $18 beer, and it prompts me for a tip

Getting groceries delivered to your house is one of the all time laziest moves one can do

If they have Walmart At Home in your area, it’s another $40 a year and there’s no tipping. We use it weekly. It’s WalMart employees who drive Walmart vans and they’ll even bring your groceries inside if you prefer. The drivers have always been professional and kind.

I don’t even like Walmart, but my husband is a cancer patient and is immunocompromised, so this has worked out well for us during this time in our lives. I hope local stores will offer an affordable option, but they currently charge more for items on Insta-Cart etc, plus there is still a tip.

THIS IS THE ANSWER! Walmart is so freaking stupid they never even offered me this as I canceled. I saw this post and called up and yes, it's available.

This is what I want. I am happy to pay an extra $40 a year to not deal with gig workers and tipping.

tipping

Yeah, it paid for itself pretty quickly considering tipping. If you’re tipping on a $% basis, it’s out of hand. There are a lot of Walmart cash options, so that adds up, as well. We usually have the same 2 drivers, which I like.

They probably assume the general public knows how to use the internet.

All these delivery places call it a TIP, but it’s really a BID. If they would just be upfront with how they pay drivers, then there wouldn’t be confusion involved. If you use delivery services then I suggest bidding higher for your food or stuff to get there quicker.

I used to deliver on the side just to have the experience. It was fun stuff and I got to see lots of hoods I wouldn’t go to normally. You aren’t giving a tip, you’re bidding on their service. If it’s too low then you won’t get it.

Never imagined I would see people get so lazy they won’t walk the store to buy their groceries.

Just because you signed up for a subscription has no relation on tipping for a service that is being provided to you.

As a side story, we are pretty easy going with our kids about letting them use credit cards and getting food and such when they want it. I draw the line at not letting them use the food delivery services.
Last Sunday evening the door bell rings and my wife answered and there is a Door Dash person drooling off Chipotle for my son and his girlfriend.
I chewed his arse out pretty good. The Chipotle is 1.5 miles from our house and he’s for damn sure not paying extra plus tipping so someone can deliver that gross slop to our house

I tip $5.

Not having to step foot into a walmart is definitely worth $5.

Mainly I get older black women in infiniti cars and e class mercedes pulling up.

The one time a nigerian woman who looked 10 months pregnant pulled up, I admittedly tipped more. And I had her walk into the office. A few of the older guys also gave her a fair amount of cash.

I know someone who is a retired insurance company staff attorney who does Uber Eats. He works 15-20 hours a week and says he averages making $250 -$300 a week. He says it gets him out the house, has the flexibility to work whenever he wants, very low stress. He says he likes driving around and listening to some of his favorite podcasts. He says he could do part time law work of some kind, but after 40 years of law, he doesn't want anything to do with it anymore. He doesn't need the money, he uses the money he makes to pay for his granddaughters sorority expenses and gives her spending money.

Delivery drivers definitely give me a pause when I see them pick up food from my place. I won't order from a place that doesn't have a sealed bag now

ridiculous especially when food is so outrageous now.

food is higher than a few years ago, but still cheaper than the vast majority of history. You've just been conditioned to cheap prices.

Eh. I shop in person more often than not since I buy most of my stuff at the store down the street, which is completely dead all the time. But when I want to do a Whole Foods type shop, ordering it through Prime is the way to go.

It isn't about walking the store. It's sitting in traffic that makes me want to murder as I inch down College Drive. Then Towne Center which is annoying in and of itself depending on time of day. Then inside the store is absolute chaos. People everywhere gawking at everything, keeping you from being able to get to what you need. Long lines. Dodging carts.

Whole Foods Prime delivery doesn't use gig services anymore, and the shoppers are employed by Whole Foods. The experience is awesome now. Even just the way they label and bag things.

It's always clear in these threads who and who has/hasn't worked a service related job before.

OP is defintiely the Sunday church crowd at restaurants who will tip $2 after a 12 person meal.

Use the store pick up at Walmart. I started doing that during Covid and liked it so much I keep doing it. Saves me from impulse buys as well! I order on line, drive to the reserved order pick up spot, they put it in the SUV and I leave. Simple.
Also, the app remembers your previous orders and prompts you…so I don’t forget milk, or eggs, or stuff I order frequently.

Of course, the correctness of your order will depend on the person pulling it. Mine have always been correct, sometimes there is even a sample of a new type of apple they are carrying, something like that clearly marked as a freebie.

I think pick up is free for orders over $30 , but hitting that minimum is unfortunately never an issue. It honestly saves me money (no grabbing random stuff I don’t need and won’t cook) and TIME.
