It's for the delivery service from the local store and also like 1-2 day shipping as well type of service.

What you could do is still shop Wal-Mart groceries online and choose the pick up in store option. I do believe their employees actually shop those and they don't auto add tips to these. And this doesn't require plus, it's free. I have never tipped for curbside pickup, but I always tip for the grocery delivery service. The curbside pickup at my local Wal-Mart can be messy if you choose a later time though. Example would be a long wait.

Last weekend I ordered Uber eats.
First thing I noticed was that the menu prices were higher on Uber. I ordered from Banh MI boys what is normally $12.99 was $16.99.
But it said no delivery fee. I make my order and get a $7 service charge. On top of the higher prices even though I was told no delivery fee. I tipped 20% and made sure they were making over a $1 a mile.
I submitted order and got a cold sandwich an hour and a half and $45 later.
I'm sticking to picking up my food.

It is ridiculous. What's next, tipping Netflix for each show you watch?

Instacart does this as well. Typically they just charge more for the items. One way to combat that is to use some of their promotions they offer. Uber often has like 40% off if you spend like $20-$25 types of promos. You have to go to that section and apply it or get codes.

I tip more like 30% at restaurants, but I agree with you. I'm not tipping for service workers doing their job.

Yes, the app takes a large cut from the restaurants. Margins on food are thin.

I'm aggravated that Walmart did a bait and switch. Their whole selling point was saving money on gas etc but you're not really saving much if you tip.

If you aren't a walmart+ member, it's like $7 for them to pull groceries for you as a service fee (not the driver tip, which is separate), so you're saving that $7 every time. You're also getting the actual Walmart prices on all the groceries vs instacart where you're getting upcharged $.50-$1.50 per item before having to pay service fees and tips on that inflated total.

If im making a regular grocery trip to the store, i order it all on line and pick it up when im out. Most of the time they have everything i want and the kids loading are pretty nice. I tip. Saves me a ton of time.

Pro tip: do shipping instead of delivery and you can usually get stuff the same day without tipping.

First, frick this country's stupid tipping culture

Half the time we complain about tipping, the other half about how little workers make.

If only there were a voluntary transaction to facilitate the latter.

The part that angers me the most is the tip is expected prior to the service.

If they have Walmart At Home in your area, it’s another $40 a year and there’s no tipping. We use it weekly. It’s WalMart employees who drive Walmart vans and they’ll even bring your groceries inside if you prefer. The drivers have always been professional and kind.

I don’t even like Walmart, but my husband is a cancer patient and is immunocompromised, so this has worked out well for us during this time in our lives. I hope local stores will offer an affordable option, but they currently charge more for items on Insta-Cart etc, plus there is still a tip.

Then I start digging into it and see that third party drivers are going to deliver your groceries? frick that.
Went into the bathroom at work the other day (I'm a cook) and was immediately hit with the overwhelming stink of old man shite and could hear the guy grunting away in the stall like it was coming out sideways. Under the stall door, at his feet, I could see the two doordash orders I'd just sent out sitting on the floor. I called doordash to report him and have the customers refunded.

I used to occasionally use those services but never again.
