When you go to a restaurant, especially a 5 star, you’re not just buying food. You’re buying an experience and this restaurant clearly failed to deliver.

My suggestion to the OP is to go to the restaurant, offer to pay the bill, explain to the manager how miserably his establishment failed to deliver and let him know you plan to post that to every review board you can find.

Let me ask you this. If you paid someone to paint your house and they used the wrong color would you pay them? to put a roof on and it leaked would you pay? you got paint or shingles but they failed to deliver.

This restaurant failed miserably to deliver their product. They do not deserve to be paid.

You were in the right. You are a customer patronizing their business with the reasonable expectation that the money and time you spend in that effort will result in some sort of value trade off. It is not your responsibility to spend more time and frustration “searching” for an employee so that you could pay for an expected that value you did not receive. If you were still waiting for your entree that was ordered over an hour ago and they did not give you any kind of attention regarding the slow service (like a manager coming by several times to apologize and offering you another bottle of wine, etc.) than you shouldn’t feel bad at all. If nobody in that restaurant cared enough to figure out wtf was going on on your behalf, you shouldn’t care about them absorbing $10 in real food/beverage cost that eventually sucked up an hour of your time and made you frustrated for an hour.

I had a similar thing happen to me a few years back in Asheville NC. My wife and I sat for two hours waiting on entrees. It took only 5 minutes to get sweet teas but the app took 30 minutes. We ordered entrees when she brought the app and we waited for 2 hours before we left. But in my case, the waitress and the manager were apologizing and actually told us that 3 cooks had quit at the same time. I finally told him we couldn’t wait any longer and he said he understood. I paid him for the drinks and the appetizer just because of the attention he was giving us and the fact he showed he cared. I think I drank a gallon of sweet tea though. LOL. She was on the sweet tea fill ups.

But if what you described is accurate and they just had a “nobody gives a frick” attitude than you have nothing to feel bad about.

I couldn’t imagine something like that. (Working in the kitchen) and have three people walk out. Unreal.

I used to expedite on the hot side. Working doubles one night. Thibodaux high graduation. 3 reservations of 20 tops. (Lots of fried food) I’m working my tickets and plating. I’m looking at everything. Things are going too smooth. Keep in mind our chef wasn’t even there. All three tickets came in at once and they are almost identical so it’s easy to take the food coming at you and assume it’s for something when it could be for another. I follow up on our second ticket. Which I’m pretty much ready to serve minus a few things. Fry doesn’t even have it. 18 fry items. Everything I’m getting is for ticket number three. So between sauté and fry the bitch got lost and even though I’m talking to them. No one tells me this. So I take tickets three food and serve it to that table. Now ticket three is waiting 1.5 hours for entrees. frick were they pissed. Worst night I ever had. Poor kitchen staff. shite waiters. I proceeded to get shite house drunk immediately following.

I'm sure Outback isn't mad that you walked out without paying for your $10 bottle of red. Don't sweat it.

So...what you're saying is you had an adult conversation instead of just walking out without paying?

Dude.

Yes, you did. The discussion of if the restaurant deserved it is window dressing to that reality.

Hell, you didn’t even leave planning to make right in the future. You only started to go down that path because of this thread.

Well...yes. But because they cared enough about what was going on to engage me and apologize repeatedly. I could tell they were both distressed.
But I wouldn’t have paid anything had they just ignored us or if I had to go in search of someone to get answers. I would have walked out without any regret. They reacted with the level of concern that I would expect having worked in the restaurant industry myself for many years. Bad shite happened on their shift that they had no control over the impact it was having on their business at that particular time. I was able to empathize. So they got paid.

I don’t know if the OP is leaving any attempts by staff to address their frustration out of the story but if it was like he said( one non chalant waiter with a shitty attitude and no backup from management) I don’t fault him.

I take it all back. You went the extra mile to pay them back. Hope you enjoyed the free wine and appetizer!

Was it Sullivan’s? Because they were pretty bad for us on Friday. We made 7:30 reservations but could of simply walked in.

Slow service. Male waiter was a bit of a dick.

I was amazed at how empty the place was for a Friday night. Ringside wasn’t even open

Sullivan’s didn’t take long to go to shite once they parted ways with Leo. He made that place.

DFRG is trying to sell the Sullivan's concept. Leo was the highest paid GM in the company so they are basically getting rid of some overhead to make the books look better.

Ringside is now closed besides on Fridays before home games and probably during Christmas season. Shutting down Ringside was another of DFRG's genius ideas to cut costs.

Dude no one on the OT fights. Men fighting they consider trashy. It's just cool to act tough knowing you have less than a one percent chance at ever seeing anyone you talk shite to IRL.

What shocks me in this thread are the people who are willing to wait 1 hour or longer for their food before asking for a manager.
