Another problem for American chefs is that diners often assume they can re-create a labor-intensive, high-quality chicken dish at home, says Alex Eaton, culinary director of restaurant La Cave
Because most can… I don’t know about labor-intensive hell the oven or the skillet doing most of the work

Has nothing to do with 47.
Look how much Todd Graves has been charging for Canes.

I'm going to say it's probably the labor, rent, utilities, insurance that's driving up his prices.

Restaurants have gotten stupid expensive

I can get a full Rotisserie chicken at a grocery store for a fraction of that price. You're paying for the fancy restaurant, not the ingredients.
If enough people decide $40 for half a chicken is ridiculous, they won't sell any and will have to cut their prices.
Does NYC still ban restaurants from giving extra food to soup kitchens and homeless people? Because that's the real issue.

All I know is that, at the Commissary, the price of a whole roasted chicken has risen from $ 3.99 in 2011 to $8.79 in 2026.
Thanks, American Bolsheviks.

Why would someone get a rotisserie chicken at a fine dining restaurant?
Posted on 6/6/26 at 12:24 pm to ragincajun03
Because PLM (Poultry Lives Matter).

HEB Rotisserie chickens are still the same price they were 3-4 years ago. This thread is dumb and you should feel bad.

I don’t need any more reasons to dislike USL, thanks.

Didn't chicken producers have to destroy millions of chickens due to avian flu? I'm sure it's going to take a little while to recoup their losses before the price settles down again.

What do people expect? Labor expenses are going through the roof. Everyone wants wages to rise but cries when the cost of goods follows

Still $7 for Rouses' rotisserie chicken and much better bird than Publix.

At Gramercy Tavern, the brick-pressed chicken, cooked in a wood-burning fire, is $36
This article is taking a lot of liberties. First off, restaurants (especially nice ones) are expensive. For example, Gramercy Tavern is very expensive, so yes the chicken there is going to be expensive. If you’re complaining about the chicken price at Gramercy, you probably shouldn’t be eating there. Second, this is not grocery store chicken they are serving. It’s some specialty farm free range shite. There’s also a $39 braised beef sandwich on that menu. It’s all expensive. If you want cheap food, you should probably avoid Gramercy Tavern altogether and for that matter avoid NYC altogether. This has nothing to do with the current president, the last president or the next president

I paid $6 for a 10 pound bag of leg quarters yesterday. Largest leg quarters I’ve ever seen. Four filled a cookie sheet in the oven.
