I knew BR would be tops. The Knoxville and Nashville numbers are shocking.

Having lived in both BR and Nashville, It's kind of surprising that they're so close in violent crime rates. I feel way safer in Nashville than I ever did in BR. It's also worth noting that Nashville's MSA population is more than twice that of the next closest city on that list.

Kudos to Lexington.

I guess I always thought Nashville had things more under control than it really does. I’m surprised it’s at basically the same level as BR.

Nashville is kind of wild tbh. A lot of hoodlums in that city. Of all colors. I was surprised at how crime-ridden it was when I lived there.

BR most of the city is becoming crime ridden. Sooner or later they can just change the city’s name to North Baton Rouge.

I mean BR and Nashville are actual cities with other shite going on other than the school so obviously they will have higher crime rates.

Brs crime is one of the worst in the country for its size city though. So dont take that victory lap.

Two friends I have who have seniors in a BR high school right now are both sending their kids to A&M. I have another who got their kid in Baylor and my wife's cousin's kid is headed for Univ of Georgia.

Most of these parents, as well as myself are LSU grads. In the conversations I've had with them, LSU stopped being an option for these kinds by the time they were in 9th or 10th grade.

Do yourself a favor. Plan an escape from here as soon as your kids are of age. I absolutely shudder to think what like in Baton Rouge will be like in the next decade.

Move LSU to Brusly and the numbers would plumet.

Seriously, what if LSU decided to move its campus and the state bought out all the cane fields in Brusly to build the campus on, what would be the first building they build?

Isn't the BR population less than a quarter million? Hardly a big city, we all know the issue, just can't say it. ??

Sure we can. The issue is Democrats, both in city-parish government and on the streets.

Does living and working around liberal asshats count as a violent crime? If so, this number is was too low.

This is similar to trend I have been seeing the past couple of years with alumni I know living in BR metro area. It’s been going on longer for alumni I know living elsewhere.

For one thing, Baton Rouge is a real city and not just a college town.

For the larger cities...is it just within city limits or the greater metro area?

bullshite, you're talking out your arse

EBR 453k
Livingston 145k
Ascension 128K

Three adjoining parishes

Livingston/Ascension's population is concentrated near EBR parish line.

That's 726K

Not to mention Iberville and WBR which are less populated but similarly situated to the above.

So things to do is the criteria.

What is there to do in Detroit, Birmingham, Oklahoma City, Charlotte, Indianapolis, Omaha? Not much. If we are going to peel out college and pro sports what do those other markets provide that says big city?
BR has

Mardi Gras Parades and Krewes
St Patrick’s Day Parade
Year round golf at some pretty nice courses
Tons of festivals in town or less than an hours drive
Plantation Homes for tour
BR Symphony is actually very good
One good casino. One ok one. One crappy one about to be remodeled
Decent zoo up in the hood

I think a lot of people try to compare it to NOLA. For things to do that looks bad for BR. For bigger metro areas around the country, it doesn’t looks too bad.

Not sure what part you think poster was talking out their arse, but It isn’t necessarily distance between parishes but from areas within BR city limits and/or in context of thread specifically from LSU within BR city limits. It also may be based on average travel time in crappy traffic.

Inside various places within the actual city limits of Baton Rouge, it can take 20 to 30 minutes to get to places within Central and Prairieville area. It can also take 30 minutes and often probably more to get to places actually within Denham Springs and Gonzales. Start going further out it’s 40 or more minutes.

Even within EBR both Shenandoah to Zachary are outside of BR city limits and can take 40 or more minutes to travel between.

Adding populations of Prairieville area, Denham Springs, Walker, Gonzales, the entire Iberville Parish (just because it’s easier), and the entire WBR parish to EBR’s total you might reach 580,000 people, and I still think that’s really stretching what’s considered the immediate suburbs of Baton Rouge.

870,000 comes from “The Baton Rouge metropolitan statistical area, as defined by the United States Office of Management and Budget, or simply the Baton Rouge metropolitan area or Greater Baton Rouge” and includes parts or all of following Parishes:

Ascension
East Baton Rouge
East Feliciana
Iberville
Livingston
Pointe Coupee
St. Helena
West Baton Rouge
West Feliciana
