Ya think he would've made a check list, especially for the stirrups which was the only means to get out!
I'd have a couple pairs of em!

Why not make stirrups from whatever material he had available. Or, was he missing accendors altogether? The stirrups just attach to the accendors

To jumar out all he needed to do was make about a 6' loop from the end of his rope and a shorter loop (if he didn't have a single sling) to attach his harness to the other ascender.

You would think that a cave like this would have some type of sign up sheet or something that lets people know who's in it at all times, but i guess in Russia they don't do that.
It's dumb to go out in the mountains without letting people know where about you are going. It's unbelievably stupid to not tell anyone you're going into a 7000' cave.

Incorrect. There is a technique where you can loop the rope for your foot.

More I’ve read about it, yeah, guy was stupid and I bet he did “find himself”. He found out he was a dumbass.

No one is allowed in the cave without government permission, and even then its only given to teams of experts.

That's one of the reasons Koseev kept his trip a secret.

Considering he looked her and their kids in the eyes, told them he needed to leave them to find meaning, only to end up getting himself killed in such an asinine way…you kinda wonder if she wasn’t too broken up over any of this.

No way I would do a cave again unless it’s one of those group walks. Heck, I about offed myself at Cumberland Caverns in 2013 doing the “wild tour.”

I had done it with my youth group in 1982 and wanted my 8 year old son to experience it. I was about 2 months off of cancer treatments and a stem cell transplant. Not physically fit yet and with a bum right leg that was about 1/2 strength due to Psoas muscle nerve damage. But I didn’t recall it being a very physical excursion.

I really wondered if I was going to die about halfway through. Crawling through 30-40 yards runs that were 18” tall. Right leg useless so relying on my arms and torso mainly. Heart beating out of my chest with exhaustion. Guide had to partially drag me out at the end of one of the crawls because I was so spent and in the process it pulled my pants down to my ankles. Emerged being embarrassed getting pantsed and that I was like a helpless whale when I was only 175 lbs. Constantly stopping to collect my breath. Son asking if I was okay every 5 minutes because he could sense I was in a little distress. Final, after 2 hours we finished and I haven’t ever been as relieved as I was when I crawled through the slit to the open area of the cave.

I was relieved but very mad at myself. I didn’t recall it being so physical an excursion and doing that a few weeks after being released from the hospital was probably one of the dumbest things I have ever done.

It was Cumberland Caverns that made me aware of my fear of caves when I was but a wee Legend, maybe 6 or 7 years old. All I saw was a dark hole and they said we were going off in it. I freaked and would not go. My Pops stayed with me and my Mom, sister, and the rest of our group went in. I still have not been in that cave to this day. I guess I came by my "Nopeness" on caves honestly.

ETA: I THINK I would like to see a show at the Cavern Sessions. It seems like a unique atmosphere for a show. However, I'm not convinced I'd be able to handle it.

I would have noped out at the first mention of that shite. Hell no. I’m too damn claustrophobic to do anything that confining. Just thinking about it freaks me out.

Huh.
I would think he could dog himself off with some carabiners and a figure 8. Then looped knots for foot stirrups.

With some extra line and carabiners, he could rig up something.

Would be a slow process. But achievable.
