Go back and listen to the entire KPEL interview. She starts blaming the teacher towards the end of the interview.

What part exactly? Are you talking about what she says around the 4:30 mark? Because that is not at all what she said.

Seriously, do you understand how schools work? I don't know a single teacher that doesn't have to buy supplies at some point. Every teacher isn't lucky enough to teach at a school with rich, spoiled brats for students.

My MIL taught in Vermilion Parish for a long time. She bought a lot of school supplies. If she didn't, many of her students wouldn't have had shite.

oh cry me a river you fricking martyr.

OK, so its not uncommon is it? Dont like it, dont do it.

sounds like they should choose better. Maybe get a job at an affluent private school. You aren't chained to your job or your profession. you chose it. Suck it up and quit bitching or get a better job.

again, very nice of her to do so. wonder if she would have simply put the responsibility back on the board if they would have done it? Or maybe the parents would have insisted they do it? Like giving money to a street beggar- its nice and all. It also enables more begging.

The Vermilion Parish school board's offices were temporarily locked down amid death threats from across the world in response to widely viewed video of a teacher screaming while being handcuffed at a school board meeting. Vermilion Parish School Board President Anthony Fontana tells The Advertiser the threats have come from as far away as South America, Australia and England, as well as other U.S. states. He said they've been reported to the FBI and local police.

Fontana is going to earn the shite out of that $38k raise.

Walk away? So because the school system is so screwed all the good intentioned, capable contributors should just walk away? From teaching our youth, the future of this world?

That will leave behind even more of a shite show. Glad you value the education of our youth so much as to "walk away"

How the hell did this turn into a discussion about buying school supplies?

Fontana didn't get a raise. He is a lawyer and the school board president. Hopefully he's ready to retire because I bet his law firm takes a hit because of this. He has done nothing at all to help the situation either. His attitude after has done more to damage it further, and he's being called out on it. It has the potential to get much much uglier for him too.

Once she leaves, I doubt she'll come back. And I get it.

Raised 3 kids in LA, (private schools). Two went to LSU and one went out of state.

All are married settled down in other states, have no plans of ever coming back. Moved for jobs primarily.

Happens more than we would think. There are ZERO Fortune 500 Companies HQ'd in LA. It's not hard to see why, just look around.

It's a sad reality of the state that I love. It all starts at the top, crooked politicians....all the way down to the local School Boards.

God Bless that lady for speaking up.

calling the elementary public school students of VP the "future of our world" is dramatic. And no offense, but we are talking about elementary school education. Not advanced physics. Not string theory. They're not prepping the next SCOTUS justice or critiquing a doctoral thesis.
So thanks for what they do, but don't lose perspective of what it is that they do.

Elementary school teachers are the most important ones.

That's where kids get all of their educational habits. Kids that fall behind in elementary typically have a hell of a time catching back up and are far more likely to drop out once they hit high school.

I know which parish will have issues hiring next year and be forced to hire long term subs.
