I know I don't.
I don't really give a shite about any public schools.

I just finished a Masters degree in Educational Leadership. There are so many things wrong here I don't know where to start.
I suppose my biggest issue is why in the heck is that Fontana fella still on the board. It doesn't take watching more than one or two youtube videos on them to see how corrupt and self-serving he is. Seems his "buddies" around him will not go against him. The ladies and the African-American gentleman seem to be the only ones who will speak out against him.
and if the Sup is already making 134K and you've frozen teacher raises... how on God's green earth can you justify giving him a raise.
Wow! Just Wow.

That requires someone to run, and last I checked, no one has run against Fontana since 2006.

My wife is a teacher in lafourche parish. The Sup makes $220k+. All school board members have home internet paid for so they can "work" at home. My wife doesnt have internet paid for and has hours of work at home each week.
My wife has had her salary frozen for 2 or 3 years now. All "bonuses" were cut out. We buy class supplies out of our own money. Raising teacher wages bill was voted down this past year while they are some of the lowest paid teacher in the state.

then either no one gives a shite or Fontana is doing a good job and is liked. You can't get pissed if no one feels compelled to challenge him. And if he wins anyway, then thats that.
Maybe this will be his undoing. Its still blown way out of proportion.

And starting this year those supplies will no longer be a tax deduction.

I commend you for your generosity, but thats your own fault. don't pay it if you can't afford it and its not your responsibility.

sounds like the voters have spoken. again, your fault if you stay in a job in which you feel underpaid.

Can't really feel sorry for people that don't care enough to change

we can and thats why we do it even though we dont have to. I wasnt complaining about it. Just shedding light on the situation

Yeah, because those are the only options in Louisiana politics.

didn't mean to cast aspersion.

true, but typical of the mindset in the educational system. waste, neglect, and misappropriation. At some point you have to walk away.

In the flooded parishes, if teacher's don't buy their own supplies and ancillary materials they will literally have next to nothing.

this is not entirely true. sometimes the supplies are necessary parts of the lesson the teacher is required to teach, or an integral part of actually teaching the students to the point that they can actually pass the requisite exams and keep the teacher in his/her job.

the problem is that people vote on teacher pay, but not on the pay of administration. the state is broke af, so voters aren't looking to increase their tax burden. see the problem here?
your post is extremely short sighted.

Seriously, do you understand how schools work? I don't know a single teacher that doesn't have to buy supplies at some point. Every teacher isn't lucky enough to teach at a school with rich, spoiled brats for students.
My MIL taught in Vermilion Parish for a long time. She bought a lot of school supplies. If she didn't, many of her students wouldn't have had shite.

We have bought everything from projectors for the classrom to paper/pencils for students who dont have even a schoolbag.
I dont care if the supts. make 500k while they manage a MM/yr operation but in lafourche (and probably most all parishes) they arent managing shite correctly while collecting their raises and freezing teacher pay

This guy gets it. Teacher will get fired or not eligible for raises if they dont have the right scores. If i have to buy every kid in her class paper, a pen and bag then i will so my wife keeps her job that she somehow still finds rewarding

the tax increae of 1% was missed by 19 votes becuase the voters didnt want to pay it. I had people tell me they voted no becuse they didnt have kids in public school so they didnt want to pay 1% more taxes. Thats all fine but the result was cutting the # of teachers (part time and full time), nurses, janitors and extracurricular activities. All of this while student to teacher ratios increase. Id gladly pay 1% more to not have uneducated youth being pushed out by "no child left behind". It is sad to see the mental stability of some of my wifes students that are being pushed through to the next level when they havent passed a test
