Can you switch to an umbrella policy on everything and see if it's cheaper to insure while the kids are that young or under your roof driving...

Ah the difference in what I paid was 180 when she started driving that car. I already paid for insurance on that car for myself. So added together probably in the same range as other posters. 3 cars on the policy and a golf cart which is seperate.

Oh and I will add that the child has to be rated on every car you own, whether or not they will drive it doesn't matter.
SF doesnt do that. If I put him on one vehicle vs another there us a $400 difference. He can though drive any of our cars.

Umbrella is on top of your coverage and you have to have high vehicle policy limits. In my experience (and my nephew was just added to a policy and we were discussing this very thing because it increased the umbrella premium also) it is in addition to not in place of.

My experience was also the same as Jakes with SF. Put kid on cheapest rated car and they can drive any of them.

In lousiana? I have asked MANY times about this and was told that the child has to be rated on all vehicles in the house.

I'm in Texas. My 17 year old son drives a 2020 Mustang Ecoboost HPP-HP (High Performance Package and Performance Handling Package). The insurance on that car, for $300k/$500k with uninsured / underinsured, collision and comprehensive with $250 deduct is $786 for six months, so $131 a month.

We have 2 vehicles with Allstate.

Wife and son is $580/month combined

My truck is a company vehicle so I pay it through my company along with one other vehicle and for those 2 vehicles through State Farm it comes out to $383/month but that's about to get lowered bc one of those vehicles are going to be dropped from "business use" to "personal use"

You need a new agent since the one you're using isn't giving you solid information.
Drivers in the household under 25 are rated on the most expensive auto IF they are an occasional driver. I have rated young drivers on the cheapest auto when they are primary; three autos-three drivers, pick the cheap one and roll with it.

Son is 23. We are on State Farm. He is included on the policy of the cheapest of 3 cars to insure, a 2011 Tahoe. Most expensive is my Expedition. I have never been told he has to be on the most expensive.

300 per kid per month.

I don't see how people are surviving right now between gas, groceries and insurance.
