Those lifts are sometimes pretty close to the ground going up the angle of the mountain. No idea if this one is or not..
I jumped off one once at Hoodoo ski resort as a kid. The chair gets within 15' of the snow in one spot for a few seconds.

Don't a lot of ski lifts today still not have a bar so you can easily stand up and get out of the chair with giant long skis and don't they pretty much follow the contour of the mountain 15 or 20 feet up?
If that picture isn't a trick of perspective, then what's the photographer standing on?

That was exactly my childhood. Seat belts were for pussies. We drove back and forth across the country in our Ford Country Squire wagon with a pop-up camper in tow. We had an absolute blast.
I’m sorry modern bubble wrap life has taken this away from us.
You can still do this

They are probably like 15 ft from the ground in that pic

I like the idea and grew up in the 60’s as well riding my bike behind the DDT truck living a helmet-free life when seat belts were optional and open container was mandatory but this does look to be photoshopped. If not, mom looks to be anchored pretty well and her arm is enough of a seat belt to keep Susie in place.

You can still see that at Loveland Ski area
Best two person chairs out there.

In Hawaii, we'd regularly run behind the DDT truck LOL.

The lifts at Sunlight are all like this. I don’t see the big deal.

The good ole days...when accidental deaths weren't ever reported.

They're seatbelts, not straitjackets.
Nostalgia can be so illogical sometimes. Lol

Late 60s and 70s were awesome.
There weren't a lot of safeguards but kids learned to look out for themselves
