That was exactly my childhood. Seat belts were for pussies.
My dad deliberately removed the seatbelts and disconnected start interlock that prevented engine start w/o belts latched.
I also often laid on the back deck under the back glass.

Also, in actuality they are maybe 30ft off the ground.
Seriously. It’s a sky lift. It’s not the thousand foot drop that it’s framed to resemble.

That's back in the days when oil derricks were wood and men were iron!

Y’all do realize that they still have ski lifts like this, right?

Our cars didn't have seat belts, or padding over the metal dashboards either!

I'd be too scared to get on today as an adult.

Just showed to my wife. She recognized it immediately. Said she has the same photo at her parents' house.

Every ski lift I've ever been on had a drop down bar.

That was exactly my childhood. Seat belts were for pussies. We drove back and forth across the country in our Ford Country Squire wagon with a pop-up camper in tow. We had an absolute blast.
I’m sorry modern bubble wrap life has taken this away from us.
When I was a kid our family vehicle was a new 1972 ford custom single cab f-150. Dad and Mom were in the cab. me and my brother were on a single bench seat my dad bolted down against the cab in the back, no seat belts. Only time we got to ride in the front is if it was pouring.

My childhood as well (born in 1975). If there was bad weather my parents would say get in the floor board until we get out of this rough weather. Bit through my lip on 2 separate occasions when dad had to slam on the breaks to avoid a wreck and my little narrow arse would go flying.

My folks had a ‘67 Impala. We’d shove the seatbelts into the crease in the seat so we didn’t sit on the buckle...never wore them. No AC. I’d be in the back seat behind dad on trips, windows were always rolled down and dad would be flicking the ashes off his unfiltered Pall Malls out the window...which immediately blew back into my eyes.
Good times.
Good times.

If that picture isn't a trick of perspective, then what's the photographer standing on?
Doubt there was a photographer. Just an automatic camera snapping a pic at that point, so they could sell them in the gift shop when come back down. That's why it at the perfect angle and you have the Jackson Hole sign on the side.

We had blinds on the rear window of my pops 63 Biscayne. Lay in the back window or on a wooden bench he built along the back seat for long road trips.

Not a chance in hell there’s ski lifts in the states without bars these days. That’s a liability nightmare.
I rode that lift this past summer, you get high as frick off the ground. 50+ ft. Sure some parts you are close. But we took our daughters up to take the alpine slide down and even with the bar it’s butt puckering as hell. The bar doesn’t lock or anything, and our daughters both under 5 were squirmy as hell by the top.
It’s a lot less worrisome in the winter when you have a couple feet of snow to land on and all the rocks and shite are covered in white powder.

Prove it. Most are optional fwiw. Just because you didn't put it down, doesn't mean it didn't have one.
