Kind of a dumb question. Does the river have a lot of alligators right there? I know some of the slack water ponds do, but I wasn't sure about the river.

Supply Chain related consulting fields right now are extremely hot. It's been that way for a while, but it's gotten insane in the Biden era.

Its crazy that a country like U.S. can't fix it yet...Biden's America.

For anyone who thinks you can swim across the Mississippi River at Baton Rouge… this is probably the best chance you’ll ever get with the river at 4.6 feet. Prove everyone wrong.

Can someone explain why the river is so low?

TL;DR - lack of enough rain throughout much of the basin, especially the on the western side of the river.

This is the Mississippi River Drainage Basin.

This is the drought map of the US for June 14, 2022:

June 21, 2022:

June 28, 2022:

July 5, 2022:

The drought areas along the river itself and the entire western side of the basin only increase through time.

For comparison, here is the map for October 12, 2021:

Mostly around the fleets and grain elevators where there is a food source....

So localized prices for those goods should drop right?

Yes, decreased supply always means lower prices. It’s science.

They really need to dredge that section out every time they open the floodway. Or they are going to end up having to open it almost every damn spring.

And every time they open it, that section sils up more, eventually leading to a river course change.

You can see a huge chunk of the river bottom just north of the Audubon bridge by the powerplant. Their dock is still accessible, but the inside of that bend just north of them is mostly dry. It's been about 35 years since the water was low enough to fully expose the riverbed under the USS Kidd like that. The hull has been out of the water before - that happens every 5-6 years...but being able to walk underneath it is rare.

Might be time for a road trip.

Last time I was by the Audubon bridge was when it first opened and they were opening the Morganza spillway.

Might also have to stop at the USS Kidd too. I don’t think I have been there since 1990’s and I was in the 8th grade.

Pray for rain. If it doesn't happen you know, it's the climate change thing.
