Cool! They are doing maintenance on the hull this week because it’s easier to access now.

Kind of crazy that this tiny little WW2 era Destroyer is still looks like a big arse boat when you put a tranny hipster right next to it for scale.

Somebody once said some divers saw a catfish that could swallow 3 people whole under the USS KIDD one time.

There’s a hundred different versions of that story, usually someone that knows a guy that knows a guy

You can see a huge chunk of the river bottom just north of the Audubon bridge by the powerplant. Their dock is still accessible, but the inside of that bend just north of them is mostly dry.

It's been about 35 years since the water was low enough to fully expose the riverbed under the USS Kidd like that. The hull has been out of the water before - that happens every 5-6 years...but being able to walk underneath it is rare.

Maybe its just me, but it seems really stupid to stand underneath an old arse boat that has been sitting in water for decades. Not that i expect it to fall, but just seems dumb to be underneath it.

This won't impact chemical or oil products from south Louisiana - they are still accessible by deep draft boats from Baton Rouge south. But agribusinesses from the midwest are going to have trouble exporting. Their trip to ports and transship points in Louisiana on the gulf coast are going to be much slower.

So localized prices for those goods should drop right?
