USPS Question - had dead parents mail forwarded to me - how to make it stop now?

My wife’s parents passed 3 years back and she had their mail forwarded to our house so she could make sure all the remaining bills and important info came to us.

It was the worst thing she ever did, we now receive so much crap addressed to her parents. Their junk mail is 90% of our total mail.

In addition, we routinely receive mail addressed to the new owners of her parents’ old house.

Does anyone have any insight on what to do to stop this? Both mail addressed to her parents and mail addressed to the owners of the house?

Good luck! My Pops has been dead eight years and my Mom still gets all kinds of mail for him. Nothing important, but they sure try hard to sell hearing aids and life insurance to a dead guy.

Fill out another change of address but have that change of address listed as the address of the person you hate the most.

Change the parents forwarding address online to somewhere else.

I'd just deal with it and hope someone sends the new owners cash in an envelope one day.

Good luck. None are dead but the people in my folks house now probably still get our junk mail. I still probably get some. Moved out in 1998.

That’s probably a federal offense.

We got a mail-in ballot for my MIL after she passed away. In California.

Check out the Seinfeld episode where Kramer wanted to stop his mail.

Good luck getting USPS to do something you actually want them to do.

If any of the mail comes with a return envelope, cram the original envelope and everything else that came with it into the return envelope and mail it back to them.

After having to un-jam their equipment a couple of times, they might get the message.

My mom did this with a every unwanted piece of mail that came to the house.

Open the mail, write "Deceased" on the promotional materials, and mail it back in the prepaid envelope.

Not much you can really do. My Dad passed in 2022 and I still get some mail for him. I get mail sometime for my brother who passed in 2021 and never lived at this address. I have a dedicated trash can in my office for this and junk mail and I burn it when it gets full.
