1000%.

First responders are either administering it or giving it out like candy.

Overdoses are as high as ever. We've just stopped the consequences.

I also think that a large percentage of people who were susceptible to dying of an overdose… died of an overdose over the last few years.

I think this factors in. I think of three broad categories. Hard core drug users, recreational drug users, and first-time drug users. When the fentanyl wave hit I think it affected those a bit differently.

I would think that amongst the hard core users, the subset of those near the end of the downward spiral were very likely to be a little sloppy and die from an OD. I also think that the more measured ones could have been tripped up due to the combination of the potency of fentanyl, often being unaware of the presence of fentanyl, and the inexperience of the people cutting whatever they were adding the fentanyl to making mistakes (I would assume drug dealing QC is lacking). All speculation on the things I think I know but may have totally wrong

Recreational and first time users may have taken some hits as well but I would think their methods of using might have given them a little "cushion" with the drug though clumsiness with first timers maybe pushed some of that the other way.

I would expect all of that along with massive publicity and new awareness to start to limit the deaths at least a little. Also not the decline was just 3% but that didn't make the headlines because thousands fewer sounds way better than 3% fewer.

Very little doubt about this being the primary driver.

This thread is catnip for the low IQ tards of TD who never bother to read the article and just beat their dick over the clickbait headline.

Already seen 4 of them on page 1.

When did TD turn into Reddit?

The graph midway down tells the tale. In 2018, ~70k deaths. Steady uptrend through the FJB years to peak of 112k in 2023, small drop-off to 101k this year.

Yep, that’s the trick isn’t it.

Still good news, but not what you’d really hope.

If the Uniparty says it’s sunny outside you better at least take an umbrella if not boots too.

There seems to be a spike in overdose deaths when something new pops up like fentanyl. Nothing new but another enemy to fight.

Damn shame folks rely on an escape from life instead of living it.

With the wide availability of Narcan I’m sure deaths are dropping.

Now do overdoses not tending in death.

I'm upset because about 30 to 50% of the replies in this thread are acting like prices went down when inflation reduced.

Overdoses are happening at an unprecedented rate right now... according to the data in that article, but because of the way it is presented, people miss the ball.

It's like biden saying inflation was 0% on Twitter when the 0 mom print happened but not explaing that. Is it true?.... yeah, framed a certain way... is it intellectually dishonest, I believe absolutely.

Case in point, the first reply to the op is this,

quote:

I've been told that this simply isn't possible in the dystopian hellscape that is Biden's America.

A sarcastic post insinuating that biden has corrected the dystopian hellscape where people were overdosing.

However, if you read the article, look at the chart provided that includes relative historical data, something that is otherwise scarce in the article; you'll see that we are still very much in a hellscape if judged by overdose deaths a year, but if you just read the title, U.S. overdose deaths are plummeting, you'd think otherwise even though it is a carefully framed truthful statement. In fact others then replied to that quote above as if the overdose hellscape was over, and deflecting or explaining why it's over. It's retardation from both sides because of lack of statistical comprehension. Which makes discussion fruitless and hopeless no matter your position, that is what I'm upset at.

More than a little disingenuous to start at 2018. I’m the first to lay the majority of the blame for the Covid shutdowns on our friends on the left, but to pretend as though our friends on the right had no responsibility for that run up through 2020 strains credulity a bit. To pretend as though Trump wasn’t president through the entirety of that uptick above 100k is flat out dishonest.

First of all, I referred to the graph in the linked article. Nothing disingenuous about using the data supplied. Go get your own data if you want to complain.

Second, did I miss something and DJT was POTUS through 2022? Last year of DJT deaths went from just shy of 69k to just over 78k. That pales in comparison to the increase from '21-'23 with open borders and the unfettered cartel traffic that came with them. In fact, let's play with numbers some more to generate a new headline: "OD Death Rate Increased by Over Three Times the Prior Rate Increase." Worst rate increase under DJT was 11k. Increase during the FJB open borders years was 34k, so 3x.

Supported by the OP's linked article by the addict on the street. No one read that far.

Is this a Narcan is everywhere side effect?

We have heard of the corollary, that after so many overdoses for a real, serious addict, that Narcan ceases to work well, if at all.
