This is why they were burning documents today.

The Trump administration accused the Chinese of stealing scientific research and told the diplomats in Texas to clear out by Friday. Beijing warned it would retaliate.

The United States has told China to close its consulate in Houston, both countries said on Wednesday, further deteriorating bilateral ties, and a source said Beijing was considering shutting the U.S. consulate in Wuhan in retaliation.

Washington “abruptly demanded” closure of the Houston consulate on Tuesday, China’s foreign ministry said. The editor of an official media outlet said China had been given 72 hours to do so.

Beijing condemned the order and threatened retaliation, but did not say what measures it might take.

The State Department confirmed the decision and said the move was made “to protect American intellectual property and American’s private information.”

Speaking on a visit to Denmark, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo offered no specifics, but repeated accusations about Chinese theft of U.S. and European intellectual property, which he said were costing “hundreds of thousands of jobs.”

“President Trump has said enough - we are not going to allow this to continue to happen,” he told a news conference.

Late on Tuesday in Houston, local media reported that documents had been burned in a courtyard at the consulate. Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said the consulate was operating normally, declining to comment further on those reports.

“The United States will not tolerate the PRC’s violations of our sovereignty and intimidation of our people, just as we have not tolerated the PRC’s unfair trade practices, theft of American jobs, and other egregious behavior,” State Department spokeswoman Morgan Ortagus said in a statement, using an acronym for China’s official name, the People’s Republic of China.

Surprised that it seems to be about stealing medical research information....not oil and gas.

They wouldn't allow foreigners to investigate the source of the virus anyway.

This election is basically whether you support Globalism at the expense of America or not.

There’s quite a bit of research going at Texas Medical Center and I would guess that’s at the forefront right now with everything going on. They steal both (obviously)

Consulates don’t have ambassadors.

They are just locations of support for citizens. Visa/passport issues while abroad, etc.

Had you actually read what was posted, you'd be better informed about what may have triggered China into torching documents at their Houston embassy today. But no one is forcing you to read anything that triggers your emotions.

Guess I'll add this here too

quote:

The US destroyed documents before losing embassies in Tehran and Saigon.

Getting rid of your sensitive and shady shite seems like standard operating procedure.

China's spy documents on the Houston area would make for fun reading though.

There was a very interesting read about Russia doing osmething similar when we closed their consulate in SF. Honestly, it was a good thing if anyone wants to read this through.

LINK

In short, SF is a good area for the Russians because of the opportunity to steal/spy on tech coming out of Silicon Valley plus there are some DoE offices nearby. It's also believed that the Russians were trying to mark and track the underground communication nodes in the area.

Like I said long - but very interesting. And as soon as it was closed there were pillars of smoke coming out of the building as well.

China excels at stealing and copying. The cheap manufacturing and forced labor is just a bonus.
