Dang, that does suck. I think I'd at least do option 2, even though that'll probably only work for a little while.

But it doesn't sound like surgery is the answer. I am one that agrees that once the quality of life goes downhill its time to make that tough decision.

I'm sorry about your buddy.

I love LSU and that would never change no matter what, but if UGA had offered to wave out of state, or given me any kind of break, I would have chosen UGA over any school in the country.

One good thing about cats is you can usually get another one that looks exactly the same. Do it a favor and let it go to cat heaven (or hell).

Sorry that your cat isn’t doing well.

I had to put down my 16 year old cat on Tuesday. He had kidney issues, as most old cats do and developed some abscesses in his mouth and severe anemia. He went down hill very fast. Tried surgery for the mouth issue and it only made matters worse. His last two weeks were not great due in part to the surgery. Wish I’d not done it and just let him live out his final weeks chilling on the deck in his favorite chair. He still did some of that but I know he was in a lot of pain.

It’s never easy and I’m sorry that you’re dealing with it. You have to make a decision that you can be comfortable with when it’s all said and done. The money wasn’t the issue but the pain and stress I put him through was an issue.

Again, I’m sorry for you and your cat.

I had a similar deal 13 years ago. My buddy Peanut had a tumor on his tongue so I had them remove it. Resulted in him not being able to clean himself or even drink adequately. I shouldn't have had them do the surgery.

As long as you don't think he's in serious pain and is functioning I wouldn't euthenize.

Then again, not sure I could ever do that.

Is this still an option?

I hope whatever decision you make that you are okay.

yes, that is what I did today

he can get this treatment every 2 weeks at roughly $70 per treatment

but that wound will never heal and he will be dripping blood for the rest of his life

not sure I want a $70 or $140 a month cat bill every month either

I just can't imagine that he isn't very uncomfortable and/or dealing with a nagging ache/pain...

OP: Prayers your way sir. I have a cat who is getting up there in age. Has been a true friend and bro. He has arthritis in his spine and I always worry about that goober because he still acts like a young buck sometimes running up and down the stairs etc. Point is, I feel ya man.

I truly hate to hear that. I love my cat and dread the day that his time comes. Best wishes for you, your wife and kids.

It's so much fun to spar with them. When I'm laying down reading and my cat snuggles close, we'll do that..Left, right, left, right with the quickness. No claws, no worries. Just an understanding.

Sorry about the tough decision. I've had to put down 2 in the last 7-8 years. Mickie, the Bengal I had before my lil stray dumpster cat now, was 18 when I put her down but it was time. Renal failure and arthritis was taking it's toll.

The good news is that you can get another for free, and have a kitten again. If a kitten doesn't make you smile, you're without a soul.

Seriously, sorry for the loss of Pumpkin. Poor lil mee-nu.

The cat obviously isn’t going to say it, but it looks miserable AF.

People often hold on to pets way too damn long, forcing undue suffering on them.

This is not about the money. It’s about his suffering. If you love him, you will let him go. He can no longer go outdoors which is his favorite activity. He cannot play and roughhouse with you when inside. He is in pain.

I don’t know how this is hard.

Do the right and loving thing and put him down.

DCBI,

From what you've shown us and based on my experiences with two cats with cancer, I don't think your Pu'kin has that long.

Our cobweb had a lump on her side, the vet biopsied it (to LSU) and before the results were back she had gone blind and had two new lumps elsewhere. He called to speed up results, and nine days after the original biopsy, I held her as he euthanized her. Some really strong steroids had suppressed the swelling in her brain for less that 24 hours, after that, she was losing muscle function, etc. It was that fast from a lump on her left hip.

Elfcat (with the ear problem) one morning would let me touch her side, and I saw it was bleeding. She still wanted to be petted, etc. and still did all the Elf things. She lasted three days and died in her favorite sunbeam.

I know all cancers can be different, but I've seen them move really fast.

Good luck with this.
