If you have a bunch of generic interviewees who aren’t bringing much to the table, stupid shite like this tends to be a way to filter them a bit to find one who will act professional and is trainable.

Every interview I have gone on, I am offered coffee....what is the difference if I bring my own coffee with me than drinking the office coffee during an interview.

Yesterday....cigarettes.
Once upon a time I did screening interviews. Hiring manager told me to hide any ashtrays and see how the candidate reacted when he/she lit up and realized what was missing. Some would ask if it was ok to smoke and I would answer yes. Others would simply light up.

The only thing I would ever bring to a job interview is a crisp copy of my resume and perhaps a blank legal pad in a portfolio or a remarkable in a leather folder. And a pen? Of course.

Had another stand during interview. When I said you can sit down they said their back was injured some years ago and they didn’t want to risk sitting and not able to get back up.
I’ve seen some doozies thats for sure. Plenty more stories just as crazy.
I just recently had an in person interview, we do most online these days, that showed up in pajamas with a note from their doctor with an explanation of why this person was mentally supported by wearing pajamas. I'm talking something that's not even passable as casual wear. This was for a VP role as well. Unreal.
I've had people show up with coffee, water, whatever and never thought anything of it. It certainly wasn't a measure of professionalism for me. That reveals itself in conversation.

We have an abundance of shite individuals, especially in management, that wonder why people aren't doing their best work for them.
Same people that do stuff like demand to see a death certificate because their best employee had a parent die right before a pitch meeting and needs bereavement leave.

When doing a cost benefit analysis, one should ask if the cup of coffee can help or hurt. I think it's analogous to wearing a suit to an interview: best case scenario, it helps you get the job. Worst case scenario they don't care either way.

People worry about the wrong things. Someone bringing a coffee into an interview is meaningless.
This is correct. However, there are people in my organization who 100% pay more attention to this kind of thing vs the candidates competence. For that reason, bringing coffee to an interview, like not shaving before an interview, or not slightly over dressing for an interview, is just a dumb thing to do.

On what planet would one consider bringing a beverage to an interview for a professional job??
Show up a few minutes early, properly dressed, and know something about the company and the job. I wouldn't rule someone out completely but they definitely do go very high up the list. First impressions matter.

What kind of impression would bringing a coffee make?
If it were a local shop, I’d ask them their favorite coffee place around. If it were Starbucks, I wouldn’t think twice about them having it. Literally, who cares?
