Leaders chicken is good but their coleslaw is the best. I asked one time and they told me their secret was pineapple juice. So when I make coleslaw at home now I always add a little pineapple juice.

Yeah, it's not what it once was. Needs new blood.
Hamburger Steak with red gravy and onions was the bomb.

On-bone chicken is inferior to popeyes, fries are inferior, popeyes has awesome biscuits. However, Leaders has awesome boneless chicken, fried okra, little crawfish things, and catfish. In my opinion, they’re both great, just each is better for different things.

I remember one in Houma. My wife told me there is still one across the tunnel.

I love Popeyes but their biscuits suck now. Maybe 10 years ago.

Had a large dozen gizzards from Good And Chrisp in Sinton Texas this evening and its the best. Large dozen has the gizzards from 48 birds.

Gizzards is a delicacy usually found at truck stops. With white gravy

St. Amant location is better than the one on Cornerview. The chicken is spicier at the St. Amant location. I use to eat here every Friday before a football game back in high school. Leaders is one of my favorite fried chicken joints. It’s a great AP secret.

Leaders is fantastic. Such a sad story but the owner of the one in Gonzales died in August from COVID. He and his wife owned it for the past few years. I would actually say keep that family in your prayers because it has rocked their world. His brother owns the one in St Amant. Historically the one in St Amant had some customer service issues but the past two times I have ordered service has been great. I would take leaders over Popeyes any day. Now the chicken shack on Mohican in North BR gives it a run.

Are we talking about the actual chicken?

Or the seasoned breading

Mother’s in Opelousas is better than anything in this thread. I didn’t much care for Gus’s, I ate there a few times when I lived in Memphis and it was good, but that batter…it was like it was made from gravy or roux. Wet batter isn’t my thing.

That explains why the one in St. Amant was closed for a couple weeks in August.

Anyone remembers when Leaders was located in that concrete structure on the corner of 44 and 30, quite possibly the ugliest "building" in the Western Hemisphere?

Their fried chicken does have a certain something, something quality to it, and Lord those onion rings are legit.
