I thought deporting people would cause a massive labor shortage?

It usually takes a person with good potential(the key words) two years to become a good diesel tech/mechanic.
Even then, most techs usually start out by changing oil.
If they are lucky, they can get with an experienced tech who is patient and is willing to train/mentor them.
An electrician usually starts out pulling wire, carrying supplies and materials, digging ditches...
The same can be said just about all trades that has the potential for a young person to make a good living.
Maybe an unpopular stance here, but I think this discourages a lot of people who would otherwise be good tradespeople.
If I have the ability to be a good electrician, I'm not a dummy. I can go do something that will have less impact on my body. Riskier in today's market? Sure. But if I decide to go to school, get a STEM degree, and I manage to find a decent job with a decent company, I'll out earn the electrician very quickly, even when comparing the 5 year head start the electrician has in pay as well as compound interest from putting away for retirement.
Go become an electrician, start at $18 an hour, end at let's say $38 an hour. That's about $75k when you're a journeyman, you have the skills to work wherever you want, potentially even start your own shop. However, you get hazed and given shite work for the first 18-24 months, you have to pass some weird acceptance phase where older trades frick with you and make you feel dumb for asking questions, and then you're expected to (informally) uphold that tradition.
frick that. That seems a lot like a path for someone with limited other options. If you want actually smart people to do trades, you make it more enticing. No bitch work for the sake of bitch work, set mandated wire pulling hours and once you're done with that you're done. It can't be at the discretion of some 40 something year old journeyman who is pissed that he didn't have the gumption or acumen to start his own shop.

Adults, like kids need to be supervised. For every 1 employee that’s excels from home, there’s 20 more at the dog park, playing golf, or doing the bare minimum required during the work week. It is what it is.
My team was more productive during WFH. They took less days off and got more work done. We were actually more productive with a smaller WFH team than our current larger office team. Of course that's not always the case but it's pretty common for that to happen. A lot of older managerial staff just didn't like it because they can't micromanage people.

It’s part of the reason why economists are skeptical that a 15% tariff is going to impact the economy much besides being an annoying new sales tax. Most businesses that buy part(s) subject to a 15% tariff will be able to get away with only negligible price increases to make up for it.
My company is holding off on expanding because of tariffs. They planned on their being some but this random 20% and 15% tariff one week on Asian parts is making them super cautious. It's totally unpredictable. Before someone says "just buy American, problem solved" we literally can't, there isn't a single manufacturer in the USA that make the parts we need from Korea.

I’d say if you can score a 30 or higher on the ACT, then go to college.

Wife got laid off from a big corporate job in Dallas. They moved to Canda because Tarrifs and she made the most. She just got a job after being unemployed for 8 months.
Spare me the, she can work blue collar job. I wouldn't allow that for her.

You think the only people that should go to college are the 90th percentile standardized test takers?

H1B visas putting Americans out of work.
I know a lot of people in IT around North DFW, it's common knowledge that once one of these HB-1employees gets to a hiring position that's all they will hire.
So they come over and take our jobs, then refuse to hire any American workers.

Skip college kids. It’s nothing more than a debt trap. Welders, Electricians, Plumbers and HVAC work is where it’s at.
And when everyone moves to that…they are royally screwed

The bottom line is our broken health care system dominates. Manufacturing is dead. It’s basically nothing but subsidy with endless demand.

Our company laid off 100 IT ppl. Offshored the work to Hungary and India
Every company does this and reshores the IT team about a year later because Indians are rude with customers and make a lot of mistakes.
Then a new shareholder focused CEO comes in and does the same thing. Rinse and Repeat.

We're just gonna pretend like these CEO's don't have financial interest in office space staying leased out.
