Under Armour used to foot the bill for strip club visits for employees

Under Armour says it is “committed to providing a respectful and inclusive workplace,” after The Wall Street Journal reported the athletic apparel company has stopped letting employees expense strip club visits.

The Journal reported that Under Armour executives and employees used to take colleagues and athletes to strip clubs. People familiar with the matter told the Journal that the company often footed the bill for these outings.

In addition, the newspaper’s investigation found that “some top male executives violated company policy by behaving inappropriately with female subordinates” and that women were invited to an “annual company event based on their attractiveness to appeal to male guests” — a method referred to as “stocking the pond,” according to the report.

So Under Armor invites the best looking female employees to company event as eye candy? This fails on two levels. Don’t crap where you eat and it also fails to make use of Instagram models

It's an athletic wear company. The majority of their customers are male. What do people expect?

A couple of guys fresh out of the Army and I started a medical supply business at Act. Bragg several years ago. We didn’t know shite about business at the time. When we eventually hired a CFO, he almost fell out when he first reviewed the books.

What the hell is Secrets and why is the company paying for all of you to have VIP memberships? Please tell me that isn’t a strip club.

Isn't this what big pharmacy has been doing for years? Hire attractive people to go push pills to doctors?

A previous boss of mine at another company loved his strip clubs and paid for everything when we traveled together. Man, those were some Visine using, temples thumping early morning meetings

I just hope the story gets the business entertainment and meals rules right. I’m tired of stories half reporting “tax breaks” that really aren’t breaks at the end of the day.

Let’s just hope the entertainment at least exercised a modicum of professionalism when selling fantasy.

Years ago I worked for a medical-device company that was owned by Pfizer and we had extremely generous expense accounts. Part of my territory was Vegas and my call point was plastic surgeons. There's a young new surgeon in town after finishing his residency and I get his business. We hit it off pretty well and one day I'm in his office and suggest we go golfing sometime. His response is that he doesn't golf but pulls a couple of VIP passes out of his desk to the Olympic Garden (at the time the best topless place in town) and suggests we go.

I run it by my manager and he oks it but says "just don't submit a bunch a $1 receipts!" I meet him at the club that night and he shows up with his wife, this guy did not give off the vibe that he was married as he talked about women all the time. Part of the reason he want to go to a topless bar was so he could hand out his card to the dancers to drum up business. I spent $800 that night and the company didn't blink an eye at approving it. I also took surgeons deep sea fishing in Mexico and took them on golf trips to Pebble Beach, Cypress and Spyglass. Those days are now long gone, thankfully.
