A babysitter who killed three children and impaled their bodies on garden railings has been cleared for release.

David McGreavy was sentenced to life in 1973 for killing Paul Ralph, four, and his sisters Dawn, two, and nine-month-old Samantha in their Worcester home.

Their mother Elsie Urry told The Sun she had "begged" that McGreavy, who is now in his late 60s, stay locked up.

A Parole Board report said he "changed considerably" over 45 years in jail.

McGreavy, who was dubbed the "Monster of Worcester", was the family's lodger and claimed he killed the children because one of them would not stop crying.

He strangled Paul at the home in Gillam Street, Rainbow Hill, while Dawn was found with her throat cut. Samantha died from a compound fracture to the skull.

People change a lot. When i was a kid, i use to not like chicken. Thought it was dry. Maybe it was because we ate a lot of baked chicken breast. Now i love chicken. Eat it voluntarily.

I could see how you could change a lot in 45 years. One day you dont like dry, baked chicken and are brutally murdering innocent children and then displaying their bodies like s'mores on a stick, and then a few years pass and, boom, you think chicken is a solid dinner choice and should definitely be walking around free where other peoples children are.

Lots of crimes warrant the death penalty.

This was one of them.

Dude should have had the life taken from his body many years ago.

They should be required to take turns housing him.

Life would be so much simpler with the Death Penalty. No 45 years of prison fees, no worrying about child murders being released into the wild because they played well in a box. Just putting in a few cents for a 9 millimeter.

This stuff happens here to. Goes to the idea of whether you consider the primary purpose of prison to be punishment or rehabilitation. I would say in the southern US, the majority believe punishment.

rehabilitation is fine but there are some things you should not be able to come back from. This is one of them.

Reason Brits use "in" and we use "on"?

I believe on of the tenets of prison as rehabilitation is that any criminal should get the chance to be rehabilitated. If you deny one person the opportunity, it kind of defeats the whole purpose.

The primary purpose of prison is to keep the bad guys away from the good guys.

There are different levels of criminal though. The guy doing 10 years for beating someone up or selling drugs..... yes, you rehabilitate them. Some dude plans out a murder spree on 3 children and then hangs them on the fricking fence? Nah dogg, you gotta go from earth for that.

And should take full responsibility (and the same sentencing) if he were to commit any crime after release.

Some people need to be kept away from society. If you get life in prison, you are one of those people. Prison shouldn't be a place for rehabilitation in those cases.

I'm sure someone that lost an arm in an IED explosion would love to hear, "Surprise! You can have your leg back in 45 years!"

But how do they know for sure? They should periodically bring in groups of small children who need naps and leave them alone in his cell with him for a few hours each day. That way they know for sure
