Did your one sister take in the other sister's kid? Or is this some weird aunt is the new step mom kind of thing?

Shes a High School Graduate, it's not like you will have to be changing diapers and stuff. Take her in.

Sister took them in. I was too young at the time to do it myself.

Men take care of their families.

I am going to assume that you are going to step up and help your family out. Does she have plans to continue school? You will not be helping her to just let her move in and find a job at Wendy's.
If she is not going to college, she still needs some more education. Learning IT would probably be best but there is nothing wrong with trade school either. She needs to have the ability to earn enough to feed, clothe and house herself, while saving for retirement.
Do you know anything about her plans, or are you just worried that you can no longer watch the game naked?

I'm going to help her in some way, housing or monetary (but I don't want to become a bank either). All these people saying I'm treating her like a stray cat just don't know the whole story and I get it, I was trying to keep the post short and get a little advice.
She has spoken about wanting to join the work force. I talked to her about seeking more education. I am going to do what I can but I'm not a rich man. She didn't have the grades to get any scholarships. She has also talked about possibly joining the military. After reading some of the suggestions here, I long talk is definitely in order.

Sounds like a job and a little time to figure it out are what she needs.

you're gonna feel like shite if you turn her away and run into her at crazy horse later on.

This is how I see this going down if she lives with you. Every single minor little thing she does that is out of your norm, you will get annoyed. Example: She takes a cup with her from your cabinet to her car and then it disappears.
Little things like that will add up no matter what ground rules are put in place and then you will end up resenting her and asking her to move out in a very short amount of time. You nor your wife are accustomed to having other people in your home and "upsetting your routine" is unavoidable.
You sound like a little bitch. I think you're projecting.

As others have said. Sit her down and lay out the ground rules in no uncertain terms. Explain to her that that was then, this is now. She's 17, you can reason with her (to some extent, I mean, she's still a 17 year old woman so there's a built in ceiling there).

This is not the time to be selfish. If your family is in need of help, your "freedom" should take a seat in the back of the bus.

Just ask yourself what you would wish for if you were in her situation.
Sure, freedom is great. But there's nothing better in this world than helping someone who is truly in need. You may quickly realize that your priorities weren't what you thought they were.

Make the offer but don’t force her

If you're asking us then she's probably better off without your guidance. Any MAN would bring her in immediately and provide and guide her to a productive life with support and love. You sound like a narcissistic selfish sob so NO, don't take her in. You're a bad example.

Tell her to join the military.

Tell her to look into the Air Force. Travel, insurance, job, paycheck, and money for school when she gets out. Great place for a young person needing some direction.

Opportunity knockin, man up and help your niece. You have the opportunity to make a life long positive impact. Set rules for all concerned and you will look back one day and be glad you did.
