The fireplace wall is basically wasted space. Putting your TV elsewhere is a tough task to pull off.
Not really. Above the fireplace only became a viable option for most people like 10-15 years ago. Still plenty of other places to put a tv.

What's the reason for not putting it above the fireplace? I know the OT has ruled on this uber trash behavior, but I assume it's for a real reason.

We have a built in to one side of the fireplace. It has a pull out that rotates to adjust TV angle. You can push it inside the cabinet and close the doors.

Ashley Furniture knockoff. Wears out about the same time the interest free financing does.
The rent to own method of people who think they are getting away with free money.

It looks like crap.
TV is way too high.
Impossible to hide.

Ours is just on another wall in the living room with a shallow built in around it.

He could turn the whole thing into a fireplace

Search ideas for an antique easel. Make it a piece of furniture in an open floor plan type of space.

I always thought to the side looked worse. Disorderly and thrown together. Plus it limits size in a lot of cases. We started there, but I hated it.

We’re going to need a Microsoft Paint drawing of your living room to help you

I sat several different ones on top of the old Zenith 26" console TV I inherited in the early 80's. Before flat screens, you had to have a large base for your big ole TV. The last one to sit on it was a 32" Sony Trinitron that was the first picture in a picture TV.

Put the fireplace in the corner instead of taking up a whole wall.

Hopefully a big cabinet tv from the 80s. We had the ghetto TV stand for awhile when I was a kid

This is always an option. I didnt have a choice except over the fireplace and this made it much better.

It boils down to what you like.
My wife hated a sectional couch, so I designed a more rectangular living room 25w x 18 deep. It’s open to the Kitchen so it seems bigger than the 18’ depth.
Cabinets below with bookshelves above with a space in the center big enough to wall mount an 80” TV. Here’s the trick to doing that, put a false wall in that cabinet using 3/4” plywood. No need to hit a stud to mount your TV. In that wall run a 3” PVC pipe down to your cabinets below. All your cords are hidden.
I have an 11 foot long power reclining couch that seats 5 full sized adults very comfortably So this is fantastic for watching games with the family. Plug in the floor so you don’t see the power cord underneath for it.
