I still don't understand why you didn't just put it above the fireplace. Are you really that worried that someone will think you're trashy? Also, it looks like its above your second fireplace, anyways.

Don't have a TV in the living room. I have a man cave/tv room.

This won’t be the main tv room, we’ll have a separate party room. In our current house we have a living room and a den. Pre-kids we only had a tv in the den because that’s all we needed and only walked through the living room. Once the kids came and we would always pile into the den, we decided to put a tv in the living room so someone would actually use it.

We have ours in the opposite corner of the fireplace on a piece of furniture. It was difficult to find something tall enough that I liked to put it on because for some stupid reason a lot of media consoles are low.

Beacause that's eye level when you're sitting on your couch. You stand up to watch TV?

Google 'living room layout fireplace and tv' for some examples. The idea I like the most is putting your tv in a built in bookshelf like this one

1. Why is the mantel not above the fireplace?
2. Why is the tv still over the fireplace?
3. Learn to photoshop better

ETA: It appears this photo isn't shopped. TV does look strange in that location, however.

The mantle is above the fireplace. The tv is above the nook for firewood

The room looks really good but the TV placement looks stupid. That is not a joke.

I can tell you why I didn't. I hated it. We put it over the fireplace in our home. It's miserable cocking your neck up to watch tv. You have to tilt tv down when watching as well, so that the picture is best. Looks crappy when pulled out and tilted down. Finally, you ruin any chance at decorating the mantle.

We bought a nice antique looking, long TV table and put it on the side wall. We then built our furniture facing it, but having the fireplace where it's actual useful, and can be enjoyed when sitting on the sofa. We then decorated the mantle nicely, and put up a nice piece of art where the TV was.

Now, when you walk into the house, your eyes are drawn to a nicely decorated fireplace and mantle. Not to a huge big screen tv mounted above it, tilted forward, with nothing on the mantle.

Our house has the open concept kitchen/breakfast area/family room (imagine a giant rectangle). The fireplace is on the long wall of the rectangle with a window on either side.

We put our tv on a media console against the short wall. We then have a couch that faces the tv, and a loveseat that faces the fireplace, with a coffee table that you can reach from both.

Is the mantle over the fireplace eye level? And, yes most of my tv time I’m either standing up washing dishes or folding clothes.

We had a similar problem. Wife hates a tv over the fireplace. Look into ways to hide TVs. Some are suggested already. The pull down tv, tv barn doors, hidden in your built ins, etc. houzz will go bonkers with a few searches.
