I don't even own a tv. I do have a Philco radio, so I can listen to Jack Benny and Amos N' Andy.

In my opinion a TV should never be anywhere near a fireplace. if the room is large enough, say 20x22, with one main wall that does mot include the fireplace you have options.

Above the fireplace would be roughly 1000000% better. Give or take a percent of course

If by cosmic forces you mean the builder, and if by your house you mean that arbitrary space next to the fireplace, sure.

I couldn’t live in s house with such an off balance setup like that

I don't care what he does with his set up and it probably looks better in person, but just looking at the pic makes me uneasy.

Watched a UFC fight at a friend's house once and the tv was above the fireplace.
I still have ptsd from the level of trashy and whiplash from looking up at a tv mounted 3 feet above eye level.

I can't believe any of these idiots haven't said that keeping a tv over a fireplace will eventually make it explode if you burn the fireplace. I've seen it so many times where tvs explode when you use the fireplace for a few hours

Whatever it takes to keep someone from shoving a 72" flatscreen into a 10x10 den slash living area.

I don't have my TV above the fireplace, but it doesn't bother me when the TV is above the fireplace.

Forget r the TV, what is the deal with shoehorning a piece of furniture in front of the back patio door? Come on.
