Scrolling to the bottom of the post in order to reply, let me first say that I appreciate the effort. I promise I’ll read every word, but if HEB doesn’t beat Publix like a drum, I will have lost some respect, friend.
Why? Publix’s prices are waaaaay too high: dairy, produce, canned goods, meat, all of it.
And surprisingly, with all the crazed tourists (yep, 30A) buying everything in sight every weekend, there are too many times that expired goods remain on the shelves.
I actually enjoy comparison shopping, but having to dig through product to find an item with a “good” expiration date gets old.
Guess management is targeting tourists who’ll toss everything the next week.
Edited to add: yay! Congrats, TulaneLSU. You chose wisely.

While Kige is the Mark Twain of our day, TulaneLSU is more Tolstoy.

HEB and Rouses are both miles above Publix. Not saying Publix isn’t a good grocery store. But it’l has the average offerings all chains have across the country, but looks nicer.
HEB and Rouses are both a step above. The hey have some departments typical chains would never put in. I do give the nod to HEB though. For me, they’re close though.
Biggest downside to no longer living in Louisiana or Houston are HEB or Rouses. Not a lot of downsides overall vs living here in Florida now.

Friend,
Next time you are at Howard Edward Butt’s boulangerie, try some Mexican pastries. You know in Mexican mythology the pastries were the food of the gods.
Pan de polvo
Empañada
Concha
Marranitos
And my personal favorite: polvorones

Another rouse feature some of you OT beach ballers may be interested in..
If Vaca in orange beach, there is a company called beachmoms that teamed up with rouse orange beach. You order online and they will pickup and delivery and stock your groceries in your condo for you.

Was never impressed with Publix or Rouses. Some of their stores are absolute garbage.
HEB has been consistently good in my experience.
