I think we had the Secretary of the Navy or what ever the head honcho of the Navy is called.

I'm sure they would be happy with Tommy DiMassimo as the speaker

She just lost her husband too. I'm sure she would have done a good job.
ETA: Nm, I always get them confused.

Bill Cosby is probably a very affordable speaker about now.

Loyola has Harry Connick Jr. Is that better?

"The Hayride" may also be embellishing just a bit, as the author has a major ax to grind with the flagship educational institution in the state (probably got waitlisted).

Those assholes...
Hoda Kotb came to N.O. and almost instantly became one of the most loved people in the city. She got involved in everything, did a ton of charity work and truly became a New Orleanian. Mardi Gras, Jazz Fest, buying her own bottle of beer from the window at Ernest and standing on the sidewalk after work - she became a local.
How should Tulane students know this? You think they get WWL in New York?

Well, when your name is on a building, you get to speak at Tulane.

So they were totally cool with Maya Rudolph but not Hoda Kotb? What idiots.

At Auburn, my commencement speaker was some woman whose claim to fame was she was an army nurse at Walter Reed in some new nursing program. She wasn't even a good speaker.
To be fair it is Auburn, what do you expect? Something good?

Only 200 people signed a petition and this article makes it seem like the whole school is up in arms about it. I hate the Hayride.

Plus shes a muslim and those jews dont like that.
We need to turn the p.c. table around on them, talk about how they are triggering Arab-Americans and how they are prejudiced against Egyptian Americans.

I thought they all went on legislative scholarships?

Of course they wouldn't, unless they're from the NOLA area and their parents watched the WWL news ~20 years ago.
My point is that this is a 50+ year old women with a great career arc who has done more in life than clown around and drink wine on a morning show. Before these dipshits start protesting, perhaps they should familiarize themselves with the complete package.
As to those who have pointed out that she's Muslim. I don't know if she is or isn't. Her parents are both Egyptian, so it's certainly a good possibility. However, she was born in Norman, OK and grew up in WV. She drinks alcohol and doesn't wear a headscarf. I don't know how religiously observant she is, but she sure doesn't appear to be a fundamentalist.

She has a good story, she worked her way up the news caster ranks. She was rejected more than a dozen times before starting off in small town Mississippi. As a woman of north African descent(Coptic christian-Egyptian) , she overcame a lot of hardships and sexual and racial stereotypes never letting them change her focus.
She has had great interviews, and has done plenty of real news and journalism. She overcame breast cancer, and now makes millions sitting at a table talking about BS and drinking on air. What a life.

I had the mayor of Shreveport for mine. These pussies need a good arse kicking.
No fricking shite. I think we had the Premier Bank(Chase Bank now) CEO come babble about chasing dreams and shite. I don't find people blessed with incredibly gifted brains for business or science to inspiring at all. I also don't care for famous physically gifted athletes. That shite don't inspire masses. Makes us accept our mediocrity.
I'd rather a comedian or something very serious like a war veteran or homeless kid turned scholar kind of speaker.
Or HER!. These kids need their asses whipped. OMW to Madigans(is that still a Tulane bar?).

That's it, I was trying to think of what the local banks where before Bank One, and then Chase.
It was premiere, I was wondering that the other day. Random hijack, but just one of those personal jeporday like questions I needed the answer to.
