Very good point. Why do some people get to go through special lines? It's the same as school uniforms and free dress days. It's for security or it isn't.

If you had put your TWIC number in the KTN spot when you booked initially you wouldn't have had this problem
Not totally true. I recently used my TWIC to see what happened and my KTN is my precheck.
The agent knew what it was and I was through just as fast if I had used my Real ID.

Bingo, That fricker deserves to spend the rest of his life in the Colorado ADX for the BS we've had to put up with for 19 years.

This whole process should be and can easily be automated.
At this point, ot is nothing but a jobs program for the otherwise unemployable.

It’s a function of whether the airport has the updated screening machines or not. Most of the larger airports have it and don’t require shoe removal. If you are flying in some small rural airport you have to do all the things: shoes off, remove electronics, etc.
Glad to see the shoe removal requirement being lifted. Walking around in socks or bare feet in an airport is nasty.

Just be happy the power doesn't go out before boarding or you will find an entirely new reason to hate and curse the TSA to infinity.
Happened to me in Brownsville, TX about 2 months ago. For those with carry ons, every single item had to come out of your backpack, suitcase, brief case, etc and be visually/hand inspected by a TSA agent X that by about 75 people. It was even more fun, because the power outage knocked out the AC as well.

I fly out of MEM often enough to know it isn't shoes that are a threat to passenger safety.

How lucky are we that the government will let us keep our shoes on.

Sir, you must not fly regularly. I have Precheck and still get asked to remove belts or shoes if they "get a hit" while walking through Xray. I fly with the same belt every single time BTW.
I do fly regularly.
I haven't taken off my belt or shoe since i got TSA precheck many many moons ago.
I'm the jackass that goes through TSA precheck line while my wife goes through the normal line so i don't have to waste time taking off my shoes and belt and laptop.
You can get TSA precheck for cheap now a days, and if you have the right credit card you can get it for free.
I think people that fly regularly, once you hit a certain number of flights and you've done all the background checks from getting a US passport and others like global entry or a twic card, you shouldn't even have to go through security. You should be able to just walk on through.

I wish someone would end the TSA.

i just wish they would enforce the rules the same at all airports. it's pretty simple. some airports require that i take my ipad out of my carryon when going through the checkpoint and others don't. TSA people are among the rudest and most power happy people i have ever seen and if you ask a simple question they answer you like you are an idiot. it would just be nice to know what rules to expect before you enter so i dont get scolded like a child for asking if my ipad needs to come out or if i need to take my necklace off.
I’m used to taking my laptop out of my bag to go through scanner during TSA check. 3-4 months ago I got my arse chewed out for taking my laptop out of the bag.
“Sir I didn’t tell you to unpack your carry on bag!!” -TSA
“Ma’am, you tell me what to do cause without signs saying what needs to be taken off/out/etc, I’m just doing what I normally do.” -me
