This is so dumb. The offshore facilities are already taking extreme measures to stop the spread of the virus.
We were getting screened at the heliport last time I went out but people are still testing positive out there which is not a good place to be if someone has it

Farming is a much bigger concern right now than oil. Farmers in Georgia can't get enough workers to harvest and time is running out on many of them.
What crops are harvested in the spring?

mandated shutdown of oil production in the Gulf of Mexico
This is a bad idea on so many levels. You can’t just shut down all of these facilities and send everyone home for a month. It’s a big deal when they send everyone home for a week due to a storm, which is why a skeleton crew will “ride it out” if at all possible.
So somebody will wind up having to babysit the platform. Deepwater facilities will wind up with a handful of operations baws and two ballast control operators for the marine side. They will require at least one person with an OIM license to meet Coast Guard regs.
These folks will need electricity, which means diesel fuel since the wells are offline. Diesel fuel means supply boats. Now they need a crane operator to pick up hoses. The baws also have to eat. Shell and BP are not going to let some coonass from Mamou go to town in a commercial kitchen with no training. Now you have a cook or two.
By the time it’s all said and done, a 100MBD deepwater platform has 10-15+ people keeping it afloat and the company is paying 50% of their normal “run and maintain” operation costs with no revenue.

we didn't have that much offshore activity anyway.
I don’t understand why people don’t understand this. Louisiana offshore market went to shite 5 years ago and hasn’t changed one bit.

but it's till no reason to shut it down.
would like to be able to read the whole article, but WSJ is a pay wall so that aint happening.
I did read today that Kudlow said they have no intention of dictating production levels to any oil companies. But that's not exactly addressing a shut down over Covid.

So wait. You are saying Trump supporters do not worship the ground he walks on? Obviously that's not the case for all of his supporters, but have you ever visited the politics board?
With that said, that is just how it is. It doesn't matter who is president. There will always be those who will see no wrong in anything they do, but are you speaking for all of the Trump supporters?
Posted on 4/3/20 at 3:13 pm to tigerinthebueche
I was agreeing with you. And also agree no reason to shut down.

Oh boy. Trump supporters on here are going to have to do some serious mental flips to blame this on liberals.
You dumbasses are waiting for trump to make a decision regarding the matter. Should he shut down the offshore oil sector, you dumbasses will claim he’s hurting the workers. But if he doesn’t shut down the offshore oil sector, you’ll claim he doesn’t take the China flu seriously.
But we all know what the real objective is.
And the cause of the blind delusional dumbassery?
Orange Man Bad!

“Discussion” is just that. Ever been in a spitballing session? People toss around ideas, and the bad ones are rejected
