The Trump administration has discussed a mandated shutdown of oil production in the Gulf of Mexico due to the coronavirus spreading among workers on offshore platforms, according to people familiar with the matter.

It is unclear whether the proposal, which comes as several workers on oil platforms test positive for the new virus, is still under serious consideration.

Well that can’t be good for oil prices.

Oh boy. Trump supporters on here are going to have to do some serious mental flips to blame this on liberals.

sure, why not. We've done everything we can to destroy the greatest economy in history. Might as well do this too.

That would raise oil prices baw. There's 0 demand for the product right now.

We are still drilling a commodity that is currently worth less than water in some instances. This seems obvious.

meh, we didn't have that much offshore activity anyway. Still no reason to kill it.

Louisiana has been fricked for 50 years. Oil industry is only one small part of why.

This is the trade off for the saudis and Russians cutting back production.

Trump believes that even if he loses LA he would still win re-election handily with TX, PA, and OH. If he talked about shutting down fracking/shale he knows he couldn’t win without those 3 states.

This trumped up virus is just the cover for the deal made with the devils of SA and Russia
