False - the turnpike in PA is a shitstorm by the time winter is over, which starts construction season until the end of fall. It's a terrible repetition.
Louisiana has some shitty stretches, but they get paved semi on time. The stretch of highway from Hammond to the MS state line on I55 used to be the worst in the nation - but it was torn up and as smooth as glass now. Same can be said from BR to Slidell.
Now hwy 31 from Breaux Bridge to St. Martinville feels like you're driving through a cane field. That is by far the worst in LA.

For all the new roads Texas builds the streets in Dallas are horrible a lot of places and not just in the poor areas.

There are shitty roads everywhere. Get outside of the metro areas of California and an astounding number of roads aren't even paved.

When I was growing up. The Alaskan highway would have been the worst I ever ridden on. A poem we all knew about it.

horseshite. I-20 through Mississippi is garbage and gumps can't build roads nor drive on them. Anyone whining about how bad the roads are here should try driving in the Northeast. Maybe after going through a set of shocks in a year or bending a wheel on a pothole you'll have some real perspective.

All this BR roads talk, there are way worse roads in other louisiana cities.
What I hate is when they sling fresh oil/tar and rocks on a road as a temporary solution.

There was a professor who split his time between the northeast and Louisiana. He used to say PA and LA had the worst roads

Lack of infer-structure (sp?) is the biggest problem
We have two large cities with no loop
We have arguably the world's most valuable energy port. And yet to get there , it's a crummy 2 lane road with no shoulder with slow moving 18 wheelers. We should easily have an interstate status road down there .

There are some roads in DC (inside the District itself, not the burbs) that are pretty bad but overall LA roads are still the worst. DC doesn't have anything like the endless kerthumping that I-10 provides.

It's a combination of old highways of a different era of driving (like the turnpike w/ extremely short acceleration / deceleration lanes and stop signs at the ends), the impact of winter, complicated terrain, and complex funding issues (municipal vs. county vs. state vs. turnpike authority vs. federal funding)
The PA turnpike is one of the shittiest roads I've ever driven on. IIRC, it's just east of Pittsburgh headed towards Harrisburg where it gets really bad. Someone told me once that the state flag of PA should be an orange construction cone. I had no idea what they meant until I drove the first 180 miles of that road until I-70 finally branches off into Maryland.

Agreed. The issue, at least in BR, is connectivity and capacity. Not the condition of the roads.

No one here has yet to mention the fact Louisiana has some of the worst soil in the country to build on. Bed rock? Nope. We get river silt.
In light of this fact, I think the roads are pretty decent.
Fun story: I was driving through the Florida Everglades on an awful two-lane highway that had me bouncing all over the place. I couldn't keep the car in the lane. Coming at me was a sugar cane truck barreling and bouncing straight towards me.
I really thought there was no way we wouldn't bounce head-on into each other. It's a miracle I survived. I just remember slowing down to a near stop to avoid bouncing into his lane.
In light of this fact, I think the roads are pretty decent.

WTF roads have you been driving on in Ms? Once you get off of I-20 or the repaved sections of I-55 they roads are worse than Louisiana's roads.
