Why not require SNAP renewal?

They do. Typically at least as often as you’re renewing your insurance policies.

I had a two door V6 and traded in for the four door PHEV. Two door is more fun to drive, but has very little space. When using the gas engine, mileage is comparable.

Unpopular opinion around here, but I’ve been really happy with the PHEV. Most of my trips are under 20 miles and I get free charging at work, so I really only fill the tank about once a month. With the tax credits and state incentives here it was the same price as the gas model.

and its a complete unrelated coincidence, that the government announced, it is going to be giving out $8k incentives to people who go buy electric vehicles. nothing to see here, these things are completely unrelated to each other

They really are completely unrelated. The car has always been eligible for the $7,500 credit, and under the new rules won’t be eligible at all. This is just a straight up price hike due to supply chain costs.

1) Never get less than 12 hours sleep
2) Never play cards with a guy whose first name is a city
3) Never go near a lady who's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body

You stick with that, then everything else is cream cheese.

That's a fricking riot.

Not to mention the last Mardi Gras ended two of the biggest parades early from deaths.

That's not really fair. Those folks were run over by floats. It really had nothing to do with NOPD.

I'm not going to say that crime isn't an issue in New Orleans, but if there's one good thing that NOPD is actually pretty good at, it's crowd control at big events like Mardi Gras.
One time I was getting gas and the guy at the next pump over pulled away with the nozzle still in his truck. It broke away like it is supposed to, but the guy stopped and realized what he had done.

Being too embarrassed to admit his mistake to the cashier, he started trying to reach up and reconnect the hose himself. After about 30 seconds of trying to force it back together, the valve busted and started showering gas down on him. His clothes were completely soaked through and gas started running all over the ground.

Someone ran inside to tell cashier to hit the emergency shutoff valve, and I got the hell out of there.

It's not even a "west of the Cascades" thing. Things turn conservative fast as soon as you get outside of Portland metro, Salem, Albany/Corvallis, and Eugene.

Sold one to Vroom this past summer. It was pretty painless and they offered me way more than any dealer was offering for it as a trade.

Are you doing Public Service Loan Forgiveness? These months since March 2020 have counted toward your 120 payments regardless of whether you made payments.

IWBI and reconvert it to the original look. If I had anything left I would pay someone to tar and feather the hipsters who came up with that abortion.

You could probably get the neighbors to chip in. What a crime to do that to that house.

How do I know if I am exempt or not? I tried to do it last week (didn’t have title so I had to come back later) and the lady at the DMV told me that I would have to pay 3% of the value of the vehicle plus like $150 for the actual tag. And I was like wtf? Why? I’m just really confused by all this. MS is much simpler.

You have to pay a road use tax on the value of the car at the time you register it in Louisiana, but you get a credit for the percentage tax you paid for it in the state you bought it, as long as that that state has a similar policy for vehicles purchased in Louisiana and then titled there.

From what I'm seeing, state tax something like 4%, plus any local taxes on top of that. It looks like your rate is 8% (4% state, 4% local) and you get a credit of 5% because that's what you paid in Mississippi, so you now have to pay 3% plus registration costs.

Louisiana sales taxes suck. If they didn't do this, people would just buy all their cars out of state.

Should I link every time Obama opens his mouth?

No, you should point to specific statements made by former Presidents of any party that are so tacky and classless. I'll start things off with some examples of Democrats taking the high road:

Biden White House on the death of Rush Limbaugh:

quote:

“I know the news just came out in just the last hour, I’m not sure if we will release a statement.

Certainly his condolences go out to the family and friends of Rush Limbaugh who, of course, have lost him today. I don’t know that I anticipate a statement from the president. I can certainly pass on his condolences and expression of support for the family.”

Kamala Harris on the death of Antonin Scalia:

quote:

“In his three decades on the Supreme Court, Justice Scalia left a lasting impression on American jurisprudence,” she said in a statement. “Even those of us who vigorously disagreed with his views recognized the power of his intellect.”

Barack Obama on the death of Scalia:

quote:

“For almost 30 years, Justice Antonin ‘Nino’ Scalia was a larger than life presence on the bench. A brilliant legal mind with an energetic style, an incisive wit and colorful opinions. He influenced a generation of judges, lawyers and students, and profoundly shaped the legal landscape. He will no doubt be remembered as one of the most consequential judges and thinkers to serve on the Supreme Court…. Obviously today is a time to remember Justice Scalia’s legacy. I plan to fulfill my constitutional responsibilities to nominate a successor in due time. There will be plenty of time for me to do so and for the senate to fulfill its responsibility to give that person a fair hearing and a timely vote. These are responsibilities that I take seriously, as should everyone. They’re bigger than any one party. They are about our democracy, they are about the institution to which justice Scalia dedicated his professional life, and making sure it continues to function as the beacon of justice that our founders envisioned.”

In lieu of a statement like that, Trump could have kept his mouth shut.
quote:

A piece of human debris that would have ZERO concern about your kids being killed in some war so he could make a few million more when he "retired" doesn't deserve one ounce of sympathy, respect, or consideration before they die, the day they die, or the day after they die.

Yet this is the problem. Trump could have said nothing, and in the process wouldn't have offered any sympathy, respect, or consideration at all. Given that other former presidents are all releasing statements, his silence could have sent a deafening, yet relatively dignified, message as to his thoughts.

But he didn't. He had to be tacky and speak ill of the dead. This statement may not lose him a single vote among his base, but it surely won't gain him any outside of it.

quote:

You sound like you eat cock for breakfast.

Like Trump's comment, completely unnecessary. Your position on Powell's legacy is valid, but you apparently don't know how to engage in reasonable discourse. It's unfortunate.
quote:

Barack Obama saying that "I could have gone through ROTC but it was beneath me."

Barack Obama inserting himself directly into the Zimmerman Case.

Barack Obama saying "if you own and run a small business...you didn't build that"

George W. Bush impugning the service of a veteran critical of him just months ago and calling him a domestic terrorist

None of these things are as tacky as unnecessarily shitting on a dead man's legacy one day after he dies.

Y'all are right though. Some day when his number is up the left and the media will be ruthless in how they memorialize him, and he will have earned every word of it.

re: Is undergrad college worth it?

Posted by krones on 8/13/21 at 7:56 pm to
You will find plenty of anecdotal evidence on this board and elsewhere that college isn't worth it, but just about all the actual studies on the topic show that a college degree is absolutely worth it. There are outliers for sure, and if you can't make it through to a degree in the end you're not going to see the benefits. But for the vast majority of people, they're going to see higher lifetime earnings and better job security if they have a degree than if they didn't.

And folks who share that photo online to discredit electric vehicles are usually too lazy to look up the backstory behind it.

That picture is incredibly misleading. It's in the Nullarbor - one of the most remote places in the world - so there is obviously no electric infrastructure there.
