Really depends on where you're sent. I had a week up in bumfrick western PA during late winter a few years back with another guy, who was a holyroller (I'm not). It was torture. shite food. shite hotel. Cold as shite outside so going for walks in the woods was out. Just an awful trip.
On the other hand, I've had work trips that some coworkers and I still talk about years later because of how crazy the trips were. Arrests, drugs, strip club ejections, wrecks, solicitation, incredible meals, casino wins, etc., just straight up fun and adventure.

I was 100% travel the last couple of years. Usually flew out on Sunday night and back Friday. It’s cool for about a month. Not a lot of time to see the sights when you’re putting in mucho work hours.

I don't wanna be this guy. I'm probably going to Wichita in October. Will Kansas be a wonderland or should I bring extra razor blades, just in case.

Idk man I enjoy the hell out of it. Love seeing the country even it's some bumfrick town on the arse end of a ROW.

I had a one month business trip to Canada (details too boring to share). I chose to eat my way through the menu at a local Chinese restaurant that was well recommended. Got to know the waiters, to talk food, and found some obscure recipes that I make to this day.

Wichita has a few decent places. If basketball has begun then go see the Shockers.
I traveled 30 a year or so weeks for a few years. It is what you make of it but some cities get old. If the city is boring get in the rental car and make a 2-3 hour drive to another city for dinner and sight seeing. Find something to key on. I chose basketball stadiums and stuff like that so it became almost a game each time I traveled.
It can get old if you let it. That’s why you can’t let it.

But that doesn’t explain why you are in the lobby. Go to your room. Read a book. Watch a movie. Not that difficult to kill a few hours.
Typing this from an airport.

Get on Tinder and frick somebody. It’s not that difficult.

I’ve driven up and down various pipelines all over the US and found myself in some tiny arse towns.
There’s always something to do. Even Cheraw, SC has a cafe with trivia night ran by the cafe owners’s kids that was fun as shite.

Since you’re just hanging around the lobby, of all places, and looking for excitement, go ahead and whip it out and start flogging it. Excitement will find you.

Pears are damn good. Considerably juicer than an apple. There was something sensual about it. Similar to how a peach is often used in sexual metaphors.

People who hang out in the hotel lobby have always creeped me out.
I was on a business trip for a week a while back and every night the same 3 dudes would be watching tv for several hours.

I've had the opposite experience. I very much enjoy the travel. I don't travel a ton, but in the last year and a half.
I traveled to South Dakota for a week and hiked the Badlands and Wind Cave park the week that I was there.
I traveled to Ohau last month and took the Kahuku point trail to the edge. ( Didn't see another person around the whole time)
I spent two weeks in the Panhandle of Texas visiting all of the small towns and hit Caprock Canyons on the way back.
While on a project in Bend, Oregon I got to visit Crater Lake.
Also, Pryor Ok, Fort Lauderdale, Springdale Ar, and Cali many times.

I used to think traveling for work would be fun, but most of the time it's not. I enjoy my routine and family time, so being gone for very long does suck.
It's nice to do something different from time to time, but I"m glad I don't travel much for work anymore.
If I were single, sign me up for travel.

Wichita isn't a terrible place to be for a week. I don't think anything is going to blow you away.
Sometimes it gets windy as hell, though. Not as bad as Midland, TX, but still windy.

Just go bang a couple hookers. I find that to be a good way to pass the time on business trips

You must not have kids.
Anytime I travel for work, I drink at dinner then head back to my room and lay in bed and watch TV in the dark. And silence. It’s glorious.

Yes it is. I’ve only been in the office for two weeks this year. Another trip for me tomorrow. Will be in Detroit all week. I travel with coworkers so I am not by myself at least for meals. Trying to meet deadlines on our contract sucks.
