I enjoy traveling for work, but I only do it once or twice a quarter and usually only 1-3 days at a time, so that is usually pretty fun.

I can see how it would get old if you are on a two week trip, and I would really miss my family if I was gone that long.

But you can still make the best of it. The advice to hit the gym was good. And no reason to "save" the good places to eat. Go check them out and whichever is best eat there again. No reason to hit a Ruby Tuesday.

Nothing about missing a wife/family, or even friends. Does the hotel not have as good a selection of TV as you have at home.

Don't know where you live, so there's no way for me to know how much you miss the hometown. What can you do there, that's not possible where you are staying?

Is your real dilemma, just knowing you're going to regret eating those extra free fries at Ruby Tuesday.

You guys inspired me last night. Ended up going downtown and finding a good *authentic* Irish pub. It was a little dead being a Sunday night, but I did sit next to two legit Irish blokes. Shepherd's pie with lamb.

I can see your point - however for me, it never gets too bad - I have been traveling for work 2 weeks a month for 17 years, and have seen and been to some spectacular places on the company dime.

I feel you. Before I got a new job, I had to spend 3-4 nights a week in a hotel. Miles, food, room all paid for. Couple nights I’d go to the casino. Sometimes it was fun, but after a while, just got old and sad being away more times than not.

I love going to the same pace everyday on a set schedule

I used to travel a bunch for work. Go hit the gyms. Makes you feel productive and it's good for ya.

Also made friends through match.com. Wasn't trying to get laid, just make friends in different towns to hang with when traveling. Of course if married, not a good idea.

I work over fifty hours a week and have a toddler. I miss being bored.

Well, the story ended with dreams of what could have been.

Despite all the comments in this thread calling OP a pussy and to suck it up, I think everyone that has traveled for work has hit moments where the grind of it is depressing. If you haven't experienced that, you're likely one of the few lucky ones. Those moments were rare for me because I was either too busy, or I was working some place that had a lot to offer after hours. But I can definitely see how a Sunday afternoon at a Hampton Inn would suck and be depressing.

It's not that bad. I always make sure to recline my seat as far as it goes on the plane and get drunk

Check in to your hotel (hopefully it has a hotel bar) and hang out there to pass the time

Look at it more as a vacation

I traveled every week for about a year at one point to the burbs of Austin. Training for a half marathon easily occupied a decent amount of the down time. Plus it helped off set eating well on the expense account. I'd also switch up hotels where on Thursday afternoon I would switch to a downtown hotel. If you're into running or even just walking to get exercise, downtown Austin is hard to beat.
