My experience with travel ball…
Mom had lesbian relationship with college sports roommate along her journey.
Dad was 2nd string everything in HS sports. His forearms suggest I’m more right than wrong.

One of the most well thought out arguments against travel ball came from John Deliney on the Ramsey show.
The family is heavily investing time and resources into the kid, and the kid is carrying that burden for everyone. It’s no good from a mental perspective, just what you said.
