I think kids today are just doing less activities in general. Especially outdoor sports. Drive down any neighborhood on a Saturday and see how many pick up games of anything are happening, very few if any. It’s not like is used to be.
Very true. Just look around town and you can see what kids hang out at the ball field and which ones hang out at Burger King.
Luckily I live in a town where outdoor activities are the norm.

countbag parents ruined youth sport’s participation with heavy handed coordination and organization sold to them by profiteers.

Yea I’m sure it’s travel ball making participation go down…not that thing called covid right?
I mean travel ball was around from 2013-2019 yet participantion was up 13%
Yep, positive it wasn’t covid and our dumbass government response…all travel ball

Does your daughter play for the Bolts? On one of the premier teams?

How serious is this Bham Bolts team? Had a friend bragging about his 8 year old invited for a tryout. Lol Figured they are just finding gullible parents willing to spend the money.

Different sports with a different demographic. The wealthy aren't getting crushed by inflation and the debasement of the currency. The middle and working class is being obliterated.

And glad it’s you they are jumping on, not me
Btw for those in south la, travel ball can be cheap or it can be expensive, up to you but there are tournaments every weekend in the spring from Houston to Nola, Beaumont, LC, laffy, BR so you do not really have to travel.
Don’t let the national scene make you think it all cost that much
Oh and sports participation is down big time across the board since covid with rare exceptions

You think the "wealthy" are the only ones? Define "wealthy".

No but travel tends to be mainly upper middle and wealthy on many teams. Atleast the good ones

They all want to portray this air of exclusivity and elite status - that’s part of the schtick.
And then you see the open tryout posts on Facebook seeking “high motor, skilled, competitors” looking for “elite instruction” against “top talent.”
It’s laughable.

Depends, The Bolts have made a killing off the organization and marketed very well at the right time. At the lower age levels it's much more PAY to play...at the higher age levels the best of the best are recruited to play for the Premiere teams and pay much much less and none in some cases.
I've coached school ball for years with the head of another Top 5 organization in the South, and he does things very differently, much, much lower fees, very limited travel for their younger teams, even started a national tournament organization with the purpose of lowering costs for teams to play. He makes a little side money doing it, but his whole goal is for kids to get to play the game at a high level as much as possible and improve their lives through the game.
The tournament organizations are making a killing too, multiple thousands of dollars in entry fees per team and required room nights (stay to play) at hotels with jacked up prices. All with the notion that they'll be noticed if they go to these tournaments. There definitely are people taking a whole lot of families to the cleaners

I wonder how much of it is economical. People are struggling with inflation and cutting out kids sports may be necessary for some lower income families especially at that age where you have to buy all the equipment

In 15-20 years, football will be almost entirely hood kids and redneck kids. Lesser amounts of upper-middle class suburban kids are participating in tackle football every year
