He wants to start as a freshman, school is 7th-12th, but he’ll have a jr high coach for the first couple of years.

Probably just let it play out this year, but he shouldn’t have to play middle school ball 2 years if he dominates the first. The sport has 5 years of eligibility...so he could effectively play varsity for 5, try and get a starting role the last 4.

First I hire a private investigative service to tail the coach and conduct a thorough background search. The goal is to amass as much dirt as possible. Once completed and viable information is found (it always is), I schedule a one-on-one meeting with the coach ostensibly to discuss practice schedules, positional needs and season goals. Whilst discussing those issues, I drop subtle hints about the information in my possession that could be detrimental to his reputation should it be made public. No specifics are required because of the implication. Once the coach and I are on the same page, I then ask if he would be willing to allow an unpaid assistant, say my son Easton's travel ball coach (myself), to help coach the team. Once he agrees (they always do) I no longer have any concerns regarding Easton's continued development and it is just a matter of counting down the years until he is in the bigs.

Send Mrs. Gaston in there to "talk" to the coach.

They’d make me the president of the school in that case.

My kid's idiot HS coach didn't pick my son for the team despite the fact that he was a 28-time World Series Champ by the time he was 15. Blessing in disguise though because that just gives us more time to focus on the the private lessons. Was able to get the "Hall of Fame" package so the cost per lesson is only $115/hour now (regularly $125/hour). He will get much better training and attention from colleges/scouts with private lessons from one of the best guys in the metro area than he ever would playing podunk High School ball.

Make sure he's at the right school where he'll face competition internal and external and won't have teammates who are overmatched.

You only get one high school career. If he can make a state championship team, you don't want him where you're gonna lose in round 1.

This is my little sister in soccer right now.

If your child is in a private school, have the checkbook ready for "extra's". In my experience it's pay to play. In public school, the better athlete plays regardless of what Johnny's dad can pay.

He also wants be the QB too. He’s never played football, but he’s a gamer. Also, he wants them to let him kick in jr high...so he can win that starting job as a freshman too (so he can eventually set the all time points record at the school).

That’s it.

Really though, he should start as a freshman in his core sport.

You know what is sad? As exaggeratted as your remark is, I once had a kid who changed school 5 times from 8th to 12th grades.

The kid was an incredible athlete that blossomed much earlier than their peers. they dominated the 12-14yo years but fizzled in HS. Looked like a varsity athlete in 7th grade.

Dad and mom were MASSIVE tools. Kid was spoiled rotten, had discipline issues and terrible academics. Got into a lot of fights, one getting posted on youtube.

Kid showed up late to a game and was benched. Fits were thrown and words said to me by a teenager that would make the Dalai Llama want to slap the taste out of their mouth.

Dad called me up and SCREAMED at me for not playing his child. I explained the rule which was clearly stated at the beginning of the year. His response was, "No one is going to break my child's will!!!"

Kid was removed from the team and later expelled for their 3rd fight.

My school was their 3rd stop. They later flamed out at another private school and landed at a public school.

Kid came into HS as the best athlete in the region. Left HS with a reputation of missed opportunities and wasted talent.

I blame the parents 100%. Raising a kid with no consequences or work ethic is a crime

How’s it stupid? You don’t think this quagmire exists?

The coach usually deals with ragtag kids who play multiple sports...put a kid in there that plays regional level tournaments and that talent’s lost on them. It’s not lost, it’s just not being developed...

He starts naming other kids like we know who they are and talking about ridiculous things. It is so cringy when he's around.

Yo Monday. So I was talking with Brockstyn's dad the other day, you know the kid that plays the 2 position on my sons team, the Regulators. Well, anyway he said that he overheard a couple of other dads from another team and they were saying that Coach Diggs, you know the guy that coached single A in Bawcomville back in 2003. Well anyway he's going to start an elite team and Im thinking we can still play over there on Sundays and Fridays and he'd still be able to play with the Regulators on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Something something Division 1 offer.

Sound familiar?

this. Unfortunately the coach is usually entrenched.
