A $13 bottle at rouses is like $18 at WF.

My go to grocery store for college. Relatively cheap, interesting selection, healthy, great people. I don't understand how this would drive up rent and the black community out?
If it was a Whole Foods on the
whole foods isn't far away. A brand new news seasons was just built. There is a new seasons in the hood as well. Said it earlier, new businesses are moving in and moving them out.

Got to pay for the higher wages and benefits they pay those people somehow.
This store seems to be focused on a little bit of a lower priced model. They were given a good tax break or grant or some shite, so this is probably like a charity case.
All I know is that the locals are happy the store is there and I don't remember anyone bitching about it.
And according to many blacks in N.O., we very much have a rising rents and gentrification problem all over the city.
Good problem to have.

Without question. Couldn't believe the amount of activity and nightlife in Freret last weekend. A couple of years ago walking around there at night meant you had a death wish.

Bywater area, Feret, Oak St, Mid City, etc are all happening. Lakeview is booming, but that was expected. Just need the Irish Channel area to make a big jump soon. It's happening.

Not to mention all of the developments going on in the CBD, especially around the Poydras/Loyola area. Hell, even Arabi is starting to see new developments.

this is why they can't have nice things...

The Portland African American Leadership Forum objected to the proposed development partly because it feared that the new retail complex would eventually push up rental prices in the area and drive out the local black community.
Sounds like a very valid and quite reasonable concern to me. If only the white and black communities here could even contemplate such a stance. I suppose you have to first care bout where you live first.

The are is probably a shithole with rotting buildings. Yeah who wants a nice grocery store. Let them hold out for that awesome mom and pop to take the risk and drop a few million there.

You try to hard to be the rebel hold out man. Not funny any more.
The Whole Foods in N.O. took the place of a Schwagmans that had been vacant forever. Thank god the locals aren't holding out on the culture activist to get them a store.
I get your point a little, but there is a thin line in these situations. You take what you can get in the beginning.
