I thought it was a joke.

Does John Georges still own The Advocate? He has deep pockets and should be ashamed if he has his hand out.

Newspapers were a solid investment back in the day with advertising, classifieds, and obits being a reliable source of income, but not anymore.

Even The Oracle of Omaha sold a bunch of newspapers not too long ago. In regards to newspapers, the writing has been on the wall for a long time.

Did the Advocate annex into Baton Rouge? If so, I am in St George, not my problem.

I am not sure when they stopped being objective in reporting stories (or if they ever were) but I would prefer to not pay to read the stories with their personal bias and get all of my news (as I have for the last 10 years) from TD. Sorry, but the real value of a journalist without an agenda has been lost in our society.

Why would this incident impact newspapers? Or is this just a coincidence that it happened now?

They're saying ad revenue is dried up because all their normal advertisers are shut down due to quarantine.

frick them though. I used to get news from NOLA.com and just skip the Jarvis and Stephanie Grace articles until they went behind a paywall. There's enough free local news sites that are content with making money off ads and page views. Plus TD breaks important news before any of the media outlets anyway

Rouses is hiring Clean. Costco pays better than many other grocery stores if you have one near you.

I’ve applied for Rouses.

I need an inside push from somebody

It’s so beautiful that more and more people see the Advocate for what it is.

Tell them to call JBE, Gumbo PAC, and the Democrat Central Committee for help.

Rabais is having a rough time of it. No trip to Augusta or the Final 4. Usually around this time his twitter avatar is Augusta related. This year it’s his sad face.

Funeral Service websites.

When dad died 2 years ago in Hot Springs Village, AR and his friends and family being spread out mainly from Tulsa to Tampa they wanted roughly $2500 to publish the obit in only 2 newspapers of our choice. The funeral home offered a free obit on their website.

Mom looked over to me in shock of how much a newspaper obit is. I told her "Dad didn't save up a $million running news ads". We published to the Funeral Home website and referred family & friends to it.

Advice to news publishers: Want to sell product? Provide a product people want to buy at an affordable price. It's that simple.

It is a dying industry due to the fact information and “news” has never been more easily and immediately accessible as a result social media. Thus, the journalist had to write more outrageous and sensationalized articles all in an effort to “stand out” in a vast sea of competition. In turn, it caused many to lose all credibility and thus, readership.

Kind of a no win situation, but that is the course of progress in technology

Typical liberal rag....all our ad revenue dried up bc our advertisers are shutdown....Help support us not them.

Always asking of for a handout vs solving the underlying problem.

I used to check out the DUI reports because I often knew someone in there from HS.

Now we are all getting older and go to bed at 9:30 on the weekends
