Looking to get my wife a car with a little more room than her Acura TSX as it gets a little tight with 2 kids. I have a 2008 4Runner that has functioned as our family car and I plan to drive it into the ground, but I'd prefer to have at least 1 car less than 12 years old (also have a 98 wrangler as a toy).

Not interested in paying $30k for a 5 year old Tahoe or 4runner - looking at the Highlander, but she is open to a van. Obviously, the cool factor is lost (but honestly, I think Highlanders are closer to a van than an SUV). Anyone have any thoughts on the Sienna as compared to the Highlander, Acadia, or even the Honda Odyssey?

Not looking new, would like to spend <$20k.

Thanks

My mom had a Honda and it was very nice. Rode and drive very well, took it on vacation a few times. We were going to buy it but she traded it in for a Honda Pilot, she kind does shite without letting us know.

I've seen a couple when we lived out in New Mexico that were slightly lifted with all terrains and AWD. Seriously considering one if a 3rd kid comes along.

We have a 2016 Odyssey and love it. My wife's sister drives a Sienna and they love it. I don't think you can go wrong with either option.

(No dudes will admit this publicly, but vans are a damn nice drive on long trips.)

Wife drives a 2016 and its been great so far.

We came from a 2008 Honda Odyssey and much prefer the Sienna.

The sliding doors are the only way to go with kids.

Just to let you know, any vehicle out there has more room than an Acura TSX

Absolutely LOVE my sienna. It’s safe, reliable, great engine, great features. So much storage space and going from cargo space to seating takes seconds.

Highly highly recommend

We have a 2011 that's been awesome for us. Traveling with three kids and all their crap is a breeze.

I love it. 3.5v6 is pretty quick. Great gas mileage.

Best part is I picked it up used with like 16k miles for under 20k. It's been paid for for years. What SUV can n you buy for that? None.

I'd buy another no problem.

The only issue is the road noise sometimes. They have a quiet package you can look for or get some sound mats installed in the door. Wouldn't keep me from buying it again though.

Sliding doors for easy entry and exit. What is not to like? Don’t listen to the guys who feel badly about themselves deep down and try to compensate with monster jeeps and whatnot.

The Sienna is a great choice - lots of room, economical, reliable, comfortable. My wife drove a 2007 for 12 years to haul the kids around. It had very few problems and is built on a car chassis so the ride is very smooth. Once the kids moved out we traded it for a Highlander.

Hell they are nice around town.

Look, I can open EVERY SINGLE DOOR from my drivers seat. There is no chance my kids will open a door into another vehicle, they can’t smash their fingers in the door, great visibility, great sound system. It is a GREAT family vehicle, and for me, safe is sexy.

I’m not worried about what some dude in a jacked up truck thinks of my minivan, (no offense baws) because I can load the whole camp in the cargo space and still seat 4-5 if I want.

When my little man ran behind my old vehicle and I couldn’t see him (thank god someone yelled) I told myself I would never have a vehicle without a backup camera again.

Read about siennas (from an OT thread funnily enough), next day called my podnah that worked at the dealership to see how much a backup system would cost and offhand asked if they had any used but good shape siennas in stock.

They had just got one in on trade in great shape.bought it and absolutely love it.

I recently got a ‘17 Sienna AWD with 40k miles for just over $26k. The visual contrast between it and most of today’s “SUV’s” is nothing like it used to be. I actually sort of like the styling. The space and functionality can’t be beat. I went on my first fishing trip since I got it and my poles fit easily in the trunk space with room to spare. I recommend it.

You know what, it is a privilege to get to be daddy for two wonderful, sweet, healthy children. I’m lucky. A lot of people don’t know that or get that.

For me it’s a privilege to be able to hop in the van (I call her Cara) and put on sea shanties and take a cruise. I don’t need to go super fast, or pull donuts in A parking lot, or go mud riding. The sienna is perfect for me and my families needs.

Sure, I might get ribbed for it, but I’ll laugh when you fly past me in a sports car, and then my van rolls past you when you are pulled over as we head to the mountains or the beach.

I had a van when my 3 were little and it was great for hauling them and all their gear/friends.

We rented one for a grand canyon trip a few years ago because it was half the price of an SUV. It had turbo and all the cargo space you could ever want.

Thanks for the input everyone. Going to see what I can find on Facebook marketplace.....have bought my last 2 vehicles private party and can't stand going to a dealership and hope to never go to one again.

It's a good van. And a celebrity drove one before he bought a line of Chevrolet dealers in Ohio.
