I mean, if they can rebuild a transmission...

Cx-50. Turbo or NA both solid.

I love Toyota but test drove a Rav 4 and was so underwhelmed
Cheap plastic and infotainment that looked 10 years old. Looked very outdated

We bought our teenage daughter a used CX-30 for her first car. It’s been great so far and she absolutely loves it…no complaints so far!

RAV4 or CR-V, not even close to the Mazda. Dependability, owner satisfaction and resale value, the Toyota and Honda lead.

My 5 year old RAV4 is only worth about 5,000$ less than what I bought it for brand new.... Thats pretty dang good depreciation.
However, I hate the seats in it. Make sure you get the good seats.

The performance of that 4 cylinder in the Rav4 is not great. My mom has one & I hate it. 2020 I think. Maybe the newer models are better.

I own a Tundra and a CX-9. Both are great vehicles. Mazda reliability has risen over the years and they're WAY more fun to drive than any Toyota I've driven.

Wife has had a CX9 for a couple of years. It's been a great vehicle and a fun ride. I enjoy driving it.

Have a RAV-4 hybrid 21’. Mainly for the cargo room and gas mileage. Has more acceleration than I figured. Functionally, it’s practical and reliable. Wasnt a huge fan of the way it handles but got used to it. Took a 400 mile trip over Christmas and got 38mpg. Lot cheaper to fill up than my F150 but not as smooth or quite. Give and take. For around town and the occasional longer trips I’d say it’s worth it.

Lexus RX or Mercedes GLC if you’re going compact.

3. Mazda CX-5 (78/100)
4. Toyota Rav4 (76/100)
Subaru Forester is well out in front in their ranking with a score of 93.

Some friends got a new Nissan Kicks and they have been singing it's praises. It or a Rogue would be competitive with those models.

RAV4 or CRV. Both are fantastic especially the newer models that are larger.

If you have a mechanic, sounds like you have a history of buying crappy vehicles.

Kia because their transmissions are crap
10 year - 100k mile powertrain warranty... don't think they would warranty them if they are crap. The truly crappy transmissions are the CVTs

I’m cross-shopping this & newer CR-V as well for my Daughter. Right now CX-5 tops the list & I usually prefer Toyotas/Lexus.
CX-5 is made in Japan, all trims have AWD, it’s been reliable, exterior is good-looking & not trendy bs, you have 2engine choices: 4 cylinder natural aspirated & Turbo. I’ll be going with normal 4 cylinder if possible. The transmission is simple, tried & true 6-speed. Interior is much nicer than comparable makes. Only complaint I hear is the infotainment is much different, but easy once you get used to it. The CX-50 is really cool too but I can’t get passed those large fenders.

We have a 2011 CRV that is still running great at 120k miles.
About a year or so ago, purchased a '24 Hyundai Tucson that we really like.
