I got TOPS with a 2.3 in HS because my ACT was high
yea, thats not how TOPS works. 2.5 is the baseline regardless of ACT score

I scored 20. I then went on to earn a degree in Finance in 3 years.

you really should be required to pay that money back IMO
Now, as a 30 year old, can't say that I disagree with you. To be fair, I paid way more in taxes the next 3 years while working 15-20 hours of overtime a week however. So I see it as I was actually a net gain on the system imo.

I'm sorry, but qualifying for TOPS should not be this easy. Raise the standards. At least make kids have to work for it.

Don't let facts get in the way of a good Hammertime story.

It should be the following:
24 for whites
22 for white Hispanics or Latinos
20 for African Americans.
26 for Asians.

I never was a fan of ACT scores.
I made a ridiculously high score and it was all thanks to the prep class and good multiple choice test strategy.

i know its bullshite because out of HS, i was awarded tops. I had an ACT several points higher than the required 20, but a 2.5 GPA, or so they thought.
After my first year of college, they took away my TOPS after somehow they realized my GPA wasnt 2.5, it was 2.495. I dont know how or why they recalculated it to this day, but they sure as hell took it away. But they are giving it to this guy with a 2.3
dude is a notorious liar

Agree. My coworkers son scored 34. Turns out he took it 12 times and his parents put him in several prep classes

Hammertime got TOPS because he banged LSU professors, two at a time.

you score a 19 -24 on the ACT And still meet the GPA requirement, you can get a full ride to community college, or only receive partial payment to 4 year college.
If you have the score but not the GPA, you receive partial payment to community college or free tuition to a trade or technical
Well is kinda like that anyway since I don't think a 20 ACT will get you into LSU anyway

Actually, the original intent was to give minority/disadvantaged students an incentive to bust their asses to get good enough grades to get into, AND GRADUATE FROM, college.
No, the original intent was to slow the brain drain, and give state residents an incentive to attend college in Louisiana and hopefully stay here.

Pretty funny side joke.
I had a stud teammate on my team in highschool. Poor guy had to score a 16 to secure his athletic scholarship at a major D1 school. So I retook the test for him at a random school. We looked similar so i just showed up with his info and took it.
Looking back it could have gone really bad for him if we got caught and it was very stupid in hindsight.

TOPS needs revamping, the ACT to get the highest level of TOPS needs to move up a good bit. You can get the highest level of TOPS yet not meet admission criteria at many private schools.

His 36 on the Knuckles portion of the ACT qualified him for a .3 GPA modifier, putting him over the top.
