The day after I graduated LSU I left the state of Louisiana for good. Thank you taxpayers!

I 100 percent agree that TOPS should be canceled in May of 2023.

There's plenty of ways skilled talent leaves Louisiana. TOP's was not an option for me, but I left as well. It's the lack of good jobs. You want a smart, rich population? You need education AND good jobs. Louisiana has education, but a dog-shite job market.

Dead last in everything in our voters invited JBE back.
Smart people make smart decisions. This isn’t rocket science.

All the ones that might have voted him out moved to Texas.

Or find ways to make this damn state more attractive to stay. The only positive thing this state can boast about is adding half a million people to Medicaid expansion.
Here's an idea - why don't we lower taxes with the savings we'll have from forcing graduates to pay back TOPS if they leave?

If you take momma and daddy’s money to create a scholarship program that gives degrees but maintain a state with high taxes and low job opportunities how could you not expect the now valuable graduates with options to go to a state with a lot of opportunity and lower taxes??

There’s no other place I’d live in this state
ETA - I could definitely see myself moving back though

Why should someone have to remain in the state they were educated in?
It's worth considering if that state paid for them to attend.

Louisiana is beyond redemption.

Like TOPS?
Nice try, but no. Not like TOPS.
How so many of you are against higher education for all blows my mind. I understand there are flaws within academia but it sure as frick beats working at a contractors supply house pulling orders for 3 decades.
And don't start with the trade bullshite. Trades are fantastic when there is work and when the apprenticeship programs are thriving. But when there is no work, they aren't admitting. And when there IS work, they are super selective because everyone wants in.
Getting people into environments where they can learn, even if they aren't exactly sure of their goals, is a GOOD thing for an economy long-term.

Make TOPS recipients stay in state for minimum of four years after graduation or they have to pay it back
How will making TOPS recipients live with their parents for 4 years before moving out of state to find a job in their field gonna change anything?

So kind of like an indentured servant system.

At the very least, LA would recoup some of the money they spent sending someone to Texas.

But yet every article or opinion The Advocate publishes between 1/1/19 and 11/15/19 championed JBE and his policies. Most of which ignored these type of facts and their underlying cause—-the best jobs are leaving the state and as a result the best people are following them out of the state. This article is a joke and should have been published in the first week of November. The Advocate under Georges has become a joke and refuses to question anything within the SWB or JBE administrations. Yet it will constantly criticize average city ends for making decisions that they believe will provide them with a safer and more financially secure life ( moving out of state, creating SG, etc).

Nice idea but will never happen.
Probably unconstitutional anyway

Exactly. If we would just end sanctuary cities and work on our car insurance the economy would be booming. We had our chance....
Rispone ran a horrible campaign but that certainly does not give JBE a pass.
