People are trashing the snipers but I don't know that they really failed here.
The kid blended in pretty well with the roof and likely was hiding and then got into position in a matter of seconds.
The snipers got him fairly quickly after the initial shots were fired, the real failure is not having that rooftop secured from the ground to keep the kid from ever getting up there in the first place.

Obviously there are outliers but it seems like most kids don't really start getting political until they're mid twenties, especially to the extremist level.
I'm betting this was more of a social outcast, incel, mental illness situation where he wanted to gain attention and be famous, if I had to guess.

He definitely hit Trump with his first shot. You can tell on the video Trump moves his hand to go to his ear/neck before the snap of the second bullet (sound barrier breaking, not the gunshot sound).

He definitely does not fire first and just assumed SS so agree with you there. But he definitely fires before 8 shots were heard (maybe simultaneous with the second shot/possibly 3rd).
I’m not very familiar with gun shot sounds / caliber so this is a genuine question - is it clear that the shots after he fires are from the shooters rifle or could that be multiple law enforcement snipers converging?

Trump was centered up but jerked his head to the right at the last second to look at the screen as the shot was being taken. If he hadn't turned his head in the direction of the shooter, he wouldn't be alive. Just incredibly fortunate timing and some might say divine intervention.
