It’s an old tactical style for close quarters shooting. You rest your index finger along the frame pointing forward. It was thought to feel more natural like pointing a finger at someone and this made shooting at close range more accurate. Instead of looking at the sights just point and shoot

A few observations:
Notice that everyone is wearing short sleeves during the heat of Summer yet this shooter is in a hoodie. Red flag to a real body guard.
That ridiculously huge magazine eliminates any likelihood that this guy is a serious professional. He is clearly a somewhat lucky amateur.
A full frame sidearm is also an odd choice. Likely just what he had available.
Aside from point blank shot delivery, his shooting was pathetic. Limp wrist during the shot risked failure to feed.
The guys with the target are surely not body guards, they are simply incidental associates who have never been trained or equipped for serious battle. No protective, defensive or reactive actions and no hint of combat tools. These guys were just at the gas station with him. No hint that they were involved or a protection team. Just dupes who managed to not get killed as they went into panic mode.
The shooter kept looking back rather than watching his path to escape.
