Together BR has morphed into a radical anti-business political group.

It's an extremely odd amalgam of political and religious groups. I assume this is the way that all these Catholic and Protestant churches can get away with engaging in political activism without losing their tax exemption status.

Actually, are they exempt from these school board taxes?

There is nothing LA can do.

With the current state constitution and the people in power, LA will continue in a very poor direction.

Scruffy’s advice is to get out of the state now. It will only get worse.

Teachers in EBR Parish should be paid prision guard salaries.

and leaders of Together BR should be thrown in jail for aiding and abetting terrorist organizations.

Generally because the average teacher overvalues the profession

I don't know about "us".

The educated and ambitious will still pursue and find quality education for their children. So, the primary drivers of industry will still be well equipped to compete in the global marketplace.

Will the rest have a sub-standard education? Potentially.
But advances in technology eliminate a lot of the issues that arise when a large portion of society has a poor education.
For example, you don't need to be able to add and subtract to punch in my order at Wendy's and swipe my credit card.

The teachers doing the good work in our areas tend to make less than public school teachers.

Most private schools in the area make a percentage of public school scales, with Episcopal being an exception.

This is the problem with government workers. What is the value? Why are shitty teachers compensated the same as excellent teachers?

Isn't the state hemmoraging money (as in loss of tax income) from these too good to be true deals with plants and such?

The "industries" which hire the best lobbyists and PAY the most bribe money to our elected officials....tend to receive the most fortuitous tax exemption deals ! It's just that simple...common sense right/wrong, is NOT what prevails, it's "deals and bribes" !

Not sure. But without them, there's really nothing here to attract any sort of industry.

Why don’t we get rid of all business exemptions and then just lower the overall business tax rate? Why do some industries get these goodies and others dont?

Then how will politicians enrich themselves with corporate campaign donations?

By dropping tax exemption, they will have 0 dollars to disperse because no one will build facilities here.

Yep, it’s so short sided. The exemption stimulates economic growth. More income, more jobs, more taxes. The exemption is only for the initial 10 years of a capital investment and it’s only for 80% and can be cancelled after 5 years if the parish isn’t seeing a return. Without it, we can’t compete with Texas.

There’s a reason why they chose to become teachers....I doubt being doctor was on the table.

They are one of the easiest professions to replace, especially in the highly structured world of state tests and teaching schedules.

With uncertified, unqualified teachers, yes. There's always a "body" to put into a classroom when no certified teacher can be found. The results of this are usually not very good for the students, however.
